Not really, the tweets covered things ranging from WW2, Islam, immigration, gender roles, etc. I don't really see an issue with saying "I agreed with the statements about how Muslims should be deported from the US."

But, I feel like if I just infer which statements someone does support after being given a vague quantity about a list of statements, I'm going to be accused of straw-manning. If I ask for a clarification on which statements were acceptable, I'm accused of arguing in bad faith. Not really sure what course I'm supposed to take.

Then just ask him next time why you found whatever tweet perplexing that anyone would agree with instead of insulting him by requesting he parse a whole wall of text. A whole wall of text I was comically copying and pasting just to piss people off btw.

But that still means I'm throwing darts in the dark. Sure, I'm perplexed at how someone could agree with some of the tweets, but I don't know what the common ground is between the statements I'm perplexed by and the statements he agrees with. Either way, we're reaching the same destination and it's just a question of division of labor.

I figured if someone said they agreed with [blank] amount of statements on a list, asking which of those statements were agreeable was a fair qualifier. After all, saying you agree with some of the statements means you already parsed the document to look at the statements so I'm not sure where the insult fits in. Well, if he was insulted, I didn't intend for the request to be taken as an insult.

I would be insulted simply on merit you literally asked him to parse a wall of text of an accused wrong thinker instead of questioning a specific stance one or the other may have had. If you gave a document to someone and they said "I agree with some of these statements"

the correct course of action is to then ask "It's crazy how some people can think [blank]" until we reach a quote where we disagree? Maybe the problem here is that I've only really read the last 10 or so pages of this thread. I didn't question some sort of specific stance because I'm looking for the specific stance. My bad if it looked like an attempt at a "gotcha" moment or something.

Rather than ask "What statements did you agree with?" and then proceed with the conversation from there?

Fair enough, maybe the wording was a bit abrasive in the first post but I was just trying to keep everything as clear as possible for a conversation. There wasn't a malicious intent.

To take your example, wouldn't a fair comparison be a Republican candidate reading a segment of positions about Sarah Palin and saying "I support some of these positions." At which point the MSM interviewer asks "can you tell us which positions you support?" And the Republican candidate answering and the conversation moving on from there?
