Re: Fitness Thread
I think Goering had a much better grasp of strategy than Hitler but was hamstrung by Hitler's refusal to retreat or withdraw from losing situations. Despite the disadvantages of fighting the Battle of Britain in the skies over England the Luftwaffe came close to defeating the RAF. Only the accidental bombing of London which led to reprisals by the RAF bombing Berlin led to the winning tactic of attacking RAF bases being withdrawn in favour of bombing London.
You could certainly blame Goering for the shortsighted tactic of choosing medium over heavy bombers and producing them in too low numbers to be effective in the bombing of Britain but his airforce was very effective in what it was designed to do ie provide mobile artillery and ground support in blitzkreig attacks in mainland Europe.
I don't know who was ultimately responsible for operation Sealion but the Germans had no specialised landing craft to support an invasion of Britain and the wooden barges massed for the attack were easily turned into matchwood by the RAF.
With an inferior Navy and a lack of air supperiority over the channel the invasion was never going be successful.
The whole idea smacks of interference by Hitler in the operations of the Luftwaffe rather than the incompetence of Goering.

For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

https://bgr.com/2018/10/19/exercise-hea ... r-disease/The research, which was published in JAMA Network Open, surveyed a whopping 122,007 patients between early 1991 and late 2014. The doctors recorded fitness levels of the individuals and then followed up to track mortality rates. The numbers were, as one of the authors of the paper put it, “extremely surprising.”
According to the data, lack of cardiovascular fitness is a huge risk factor for death. That might not sound shocking, but keep in mind that it’s being compared to things like hypertension and even being a smoker. Lack of exercise is, as far as this study is concerned, actually worse than being a current smoker.
“Being unfit on a treadmill or in an exercise stress test has a worse prognosis, as far as death, than being hypertensive, being diabetic or being a current smoker,” Dr Wael Jaber, a senior author of the research, told CNN. “We’ve never seen something as pronounced as this and as objective as this.”
The researchers insist that a sedentary lifestyle should be seen like a disease, with the obvious treatment being exercise.
On a related note, the study also looked at the potential risk of being overactive. The researchers looked at the possibility of diehard gym rats and marathoners being at risk from pushing themselves too hard, but found that there’s no link between an abundance of exercise and an early grave. Put simply, you can never get too much exercise, but it’s definitely possible to get too little.

I figured out a brutal core exercise using a foam roller. Feet on the ground in push up position with palms balancing on foam roller. Roll that bitch out across your forearms until you are in the elbow plank position. Roll that bitch right back up across your forearms into push up position. Repeat.
Sounds easy. Try it.

Want To Live Longer? Make Sure You're A Fat, Coffee Drinking Alcoholic By Your 70s
Major findings:
Researchers from The 90+ Study have published many scientific papers in premier journals. Some of the major findings are:
People who drank moderate amounts of alcohol or coffee lived longer than those who abstained.
People who were overweight in their 70s lived longer than normal or underweight people did.
Over 40% of people aged 90 and older suffer from dementia while almost 80% are disabled. Both are more common in women than men.
About half of people with dementia over age 90 do not have sufficient neuropathology in their brain to explain their cognitive loss.
People aged 90 and older with an APOE2 gene are less likely to have clinical Alzheimer’s dementia, but are much more likely to have Alzheimer’s neuropathology in their brains.

I take all these studies with a grain of salt. They have told me so much misinformation over the years. Eat Margerine not Butter, fat will kill you, meat is bad for you, be a vegan, eggs are bad, eggs are good.
