My boss, the owner of the company, is a jew and he doesn't even give me a hard time about some customers that I let slide on charges in the hope that I get a better tip. I pull in 2k a day gross for him though. He's not going to give me a hard time about a few 20 dollar boxes

Wow. First, don’t try and predict the future or read people’s minds. This guy makes big bucks for you and $5K is mousenuts. You need a heart-to-heart. Ask him what the fuck he’s thinking, and what did he think was going to happen? Ask him what he thinks you should do? Fear would work here.

Is he trying to look good? The spending may not be directly client related but maybe it is indirectly a bit, and maybe he's treating himself and his wife (shes got to look good for the clients as well after all.)

When you confronted him maybe he didn't know how to say it but he may not feel like it's technically stealing. Just a little grease. So he lied about switching credit cards by accident.

He admitted purchases were illegitimate to HR. He said he mistook company credit card for his.
