Didn't even think of allergies. This is going to be a fucking nightmare.Kath wrote:So now the government will have to set up a database with every food they are going to have, and note any allergies in the household. Then someone needs to sort through that data to figure out which households can't get peanut butter, which can't get any gluten... and several other allergies.C-Mag wrote:
Right, it's not likely we are going to stop giving away resources to feed people. Question is should all the resources be in highly street tradeable EBT cards or physical goods with the needed nutritional value and less street value.
Now mom with gluten allergy and kid with peanut allergy get a box with the wrong stuff. Now they have to go to their local government food distribution center with the unusable food in hopes to exchange it for food they can eat.
What a nightmare. But, the feds will be running it so all will go well.

DBTrek wrote:If you want maximum efficiency from your tax dollar, then you want the consumer making the purchasing choices. They, like regular consumers, will “vote with (our) dollars” on how resources should be best divided in our economy (aka milk, butter, or ice cream? Which does the economy demand more? Vote with cash).
If you don’t care about efficiency, do what you want. Just do so with the knowledge that human planners aren’t going to correctly predict the supply/demand curve of food rations and every time they predict wrong it’s going to cost more money.

You may have me DB, should the EBT cards be limited to certain foods like they do with WIC to reduce fraud ?
As far as allergies. Certain allergies are real, few are life threatening the IMHNSHO, its being used as a fucking crutch by millions of parents and kids. Get off it.

Where did you get your doctorate? Now, I'll agree 100% that this gluten thing is out of hand, and is being treated as a stupid fad diet by many. This should in NO WAY diminish the very real impact of food allergies for boatloads of people.C-Mag wrote:

https://www.foodallergy.org/life-food-a ... statistics
Food Allergy Reactions Are Serious and Can Be Life-Threatening.
Every three minutes, a food allergy reaction sends someone to the emergency room.
Each year in the U.S., 200,000 people require emergency medical care for allergic reactions to food.
Childhood hospitalizations for food allergy tripled between the late 1990s and the mid-2000s.
About 40 percent of children with food allergies have experienced a severe allergic reaction such as anaphylaxis.
To Which Foods Are People Allergic?
More than 170 foods have been reported to cause allergic reactions.
Eight major food allergens – milk, egg, peanut, tree nuts, wheat, soy, fish and crustacean shellfish – are responsible for most of the serious food allergy reactions in the United States.
Allergy to sesame is an emerging concern.

I don't need a doctorate to know people are full of shit about all their food allergies. 'Dangerous Allergies' typify a huge problem in our country. This idea that there is something wrong with you. You need a counselor, you have back trouble, you need special food because of allergies.
It's not to say there are not real allergies. Nut allergies are real and kill people. However, damn few people have nut allergies bad enough to kill them. I'm allergic to cats, the wife has a cat, I have a barn cat, I pet them occasionally, I sneeze.......... Big Fucking Deal.
Americans need to quit being pussies and searching for whats wrong with them so they can have an excuse of why they can't do something.

So emergency rooms are fudging the numbers when it comes to how many people they treat for allergies? On what data do you base this accusation?

Well, the reaction would probably be exponentially stronger when you consume the allergen, as opposed to inhaling some tiny bit of dander from it.C-Mag wrote:GrumpyCatFace wrote:I don't entirely disagre, but.. Common Fucking Sense
I could go pet a pussy, walking into an Emergency Room, fill out a form and sneeze and I would get meds. Big Pharma loves when you show up at the Emergency Room for silly shit.
As far as the picture of the kid................ yes, there are real allergies, I stated that. Hell, everyone probably has certain things that don't agree with them. My point is in American culture we go look for what's wrong with people, then turn it into a Fucking Excuse why Sally can't exert herself in Gym Class.
