Well I only ask because I had heard that they taught kids about household budgeting and how to balance a checkbook, that sort of thing. Useful stuff.
I learned to sew in Middle school and then was reinforced in the army that was helpful.

Microgeneration born between 1977-1983

People my age simply have too unique of an experience as it relates to technology to be considered in the same group as Millennials or Generation X
Might be the first ever documented case of Generational Guilt, right there.
Like white guilt, except these millennials are all like "WE'RE NOT REALLY MILLENNIALS THO!"

I will fight to the death to not be called a millennial.
It really is not the same. I didn't grow up with a computer in the house nor did anyone else have one. Didn't have a cell phone of my own till I was in my twenties.

Defeated Zaxxon by age 9

Gen X through and through here.

I didn't have a computer until high school, but I didn't go to college with one and shared with roommate/girlfriend until my last year. I didn't have a cell phone of my own until I was 20, and texting was in its infancy. We didn't even have DSL until my last year

The real millennial grew up with not only phones, computers, and broadband, but with social media as well. I had nothing but rudimentary message boards and forums until I was well out of college

The only difference is that I had a NES, Genesis, SNES, N64, etc since I was 6

Same. I wasn't allowed to touch a computer until a teenager. Cell phone in my 20s

I have looked many places for a solid definition of millennial, but everyone has a different one. Most places would not count them as growing up with social media, at least not the modern giants. MySpace, sure, if you were a later millennial. 2004 (the cutoff in your article) is the latest I've seen; they usually cutoff between 97 and 00.

Gen Z definitely grew up (and is growing) with all the tech. I know StA has high hopes for us, but I've seen as much left as right as traditional as progressive thought in my peers, so I don't think the future is quite as glowing as he might expect.

Your last year was 2008? :D

When the majority of parents of newborns became boomers, millennials began.

When the majority of parents of newborns became Gen X, Gen Z began.

Now millennials are the predominant parents of newborns. The kids being born today might be known as something like the baby mamma generation. They likely will be a bigger disaster than either the boomers or millennials.

I really think these two generational lines have diverged too far. Gen Z and baby mamma babies are going to utterly despise one another

Students graduating from high school don't need to understand how, for example, money works, nor do we need to learn any lessons whatsoever from the 20th Century, all you need to know is that the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell, and the name of every bone in the human hand.

If they could do that, they'd be more qualified than the average VA doctor. So it would be a step in the right direction, honestly.

No.

But I did memorize both the periodic table and every bone in the human body.
You want to hear something gross. My wife asked my 16 year old niece and her friends if they know why we American's celebrate the 4th of July. Not one of them had a clue. I was utterly shocked. I then asked if they knew what 12/7/1941 was, again we got blank looks. WTF are they teaching these kids?
There is a time for good men to do bad things.

For fuck sake, 1984 is NOT an instruction manual!
