Re: Oregon: Pump Your Own Gas Crisis
I am going to go ahead and come down on the side of banning self-checkout at the grocery store.
Fuck that noise. When it is busy, it takes just as long to get through self-checkout, and I haven't seen any meaningful savings on groceries since they've been put in.
All they do is turn me into an unpaid employee of the grocery store.
Fuck self-checkout lines all the way.

I'm a convert to self checkout, I used to be like you, and my wife was all about self checkout, but now I'm so fast at self checkout, I'm even faster than her.Hanarchy Montanarchy wrote:I am going to go ahead and come down on the side of banning self-checkout at the grocery store.

The checkout girls are lazy Millennial types, they're too slow, I just go self checkout now, I'm not waiting around in line, fuck that.
Get rid of all those lazy Millennial types, let them beg in the street, I want all self checkout now, we don't need any of these phony make work jobs, the jig is up, they can't hide anymore, the employees are worse than useless, we're exponentially faster and more efficient than they are, all self checkout is the future.
The Liberals went and jacked up the minimum wage here, and the cost is just going to get passed through to me, I'd fire all the employees on that alone, I'm not paying more for people who don't do the job well now, kill two birds with one stone, punish them for the policies of the Liberals, and get rid of them for being dead weight, don't pay the minimum wage, just replace them with automation, market forces lefties, take it in the ass.

It ain't my speed that is the problem, I can scan them shits like a boss. The grocery store has gotten rid of so many of their checkers, that when it gets busy, the self checkout line just backs up. Then you add everyone else's user errors clogging up the work, which an employee has to come and reset the damn automated checker for every time anyway.Smitty-48 wrote:I'm a convert to self checkout, I used to be like you, and my wife was all about self checkout, but now I'm so fast at self checkout, I'm even faster than her.Hanarchy Montanarchy wrote:I am going to go ahead and come down on the side of banning self-checkout at the grocery store.

It is a little bit faster when the store is completely dead, but then, what is the damn point?
Nah. I say nanny state this one right up. Have the jack booted federales dragging Safeway management into the street and gunning them down. The people's democratic revolution of the checkout aisle will be bathed in their blood.

Re: Oregon: Pump Your Own Gas Crisis
My grocery store solved that problem, they took out most of the checkout aisles and replaced that with four times as many self check out aisles, so it's all good, they're getting with the program, automate everything, get rid of all the employees, things are going much faster now, there's barely any lineups at all.
The nanny state caused it anyways, when they jacked up the minimum wage, that's just inciting the grocery stores to do what they need to do, which is full automation, no employees, minimum wage is zero.
The employees were mostly young people, like I said, lazy Millennial types, they don't deserve employment, because they don't work hard, you can literally see them goofing off while there are lineups, they do it right in front of you, they're brazen about it, so let them live in their moms basement and beg in the street, if they cause a ruckus, sic the paramilitary security forces on them.
I mean, heck, my wife's a liberal bleeding heart, but even she says they're lazy good for nothings, she's the one who turned me on to self checkout.
The only place I don't do self checkout, is Costco, they don't have it, but they don't need it, cause they're so fuckin' fast, at Costco they hustle, nobody goofs off at Costco.

Re: Oregon: Pump Your Own Gas Crisis
This might come as a shock to certain people, but the future is all self-service. Nobody will want to pay more money for shitty service when they can just do it themselves. Most people still go along with it because it's still so pervasive and they haven't really considered how arbitrary this service-based system really is.
Restaurants technically don't need servers. You can serve your damned self. Order your meal, pick it up, fill your own drink, clean your table off. Doing that reduces the cost of the meal and you don't have to leave a tip for shoddy service. Nor do you have to wait around for like ten minutes for somebody to realize your tea is empty (you can just go fill it as you please).
Even at Wallyworld, when the self-checkout line is long, that sucker clears out fast. You can have a line of like a dozen different families waiting to check out, and then a regular line with two families, and the regular line will still be the slowest choice. It's in everybody's interest to get in and out of the store. It's not in the interest of the minimum wage worker to quickly scan all the items. They don't care. Why should they?
I want to see this whole service industry eliminated. Bring down those prices. The service industry is a giant window-washing scam.

Re: Oregon: Pump Your Own Gas Crisis
I prefer self-checkout primarily so I don't have to chit chat with the register clerk. Most of the time they're quiet and friendly enough but god damn if you don't come across people that must get off at conversing with the public, prattling on about how much they love the cherry flavored jam when the strawberry flavored jam is obviously superior, get fucked lady you have no taste, leave me alone.
It goes both ways, I worked for years as a gas station clerk and would find so many people would start telling you about their lives, their day, the weather, all this bullshit that holds up my fuckin line, these people are looking for friends and I don't want to be their fucking friend.
Self-checkout all day

Today is a balmy -4 with the wind chill. Got room for an old lady from Jersey on your beach?Kath wrote:Stay warm, GF. I remember a week+ of below zero a couple of decades ago --- It got to 40 one day and we were out in shorts and tank tops. Enjoy that part.MilSpecs wrote:

Brrrr... it got to 38 last night, and for South Florida, that's ridiculous. We haven't put the heater on, yet. That shit stinks after a couple of months of summer... can't imagine the stench after years... blech.
currently 12 blankets and quilts on the bed.
Penner, are you still with us? I’m desperately putting off going out but I’ve got to be outside for a while - trying to unpack a car.
