Yes, if you take any force and drop it 2,000 years into the future, it will not be capable. However, we can't ignore that the Persian/Hun forces of the time were very similar to the later Mongols - strikingly so, when you consider how far apart they were in time.

You're going to need to define similar. Do you mean they rode horses and shot arrows at people? Because the German forces of the 1500s walked around with pikes and shot things at people while also occasionally charging in with horsemen. Very similar to the tactics of Alexander. It's dishonest to say the nomads fought similar to one another like that.GrumpyCatFace wrote:We're still kinda jumping around here...

The lack of stirrups in the Hunnic and Persian forces alone mean that their charges are nowhere near as damaging as the charges done by the Mongols. Their bows are weaker. Hell, the Persians were partially sedentary at the time so they are completely different. It's like saying an army from WW2 and an army from today are the same because they TECHINCALLY use the same weapons.

Solve some of this discussion: give Alexander Mongol-era tech, like steel armor and weapons, stirrup, etc.

Given the same people, training, and techniques, I think he conquers Persia all over again.katarn wrote:Solve some of this discussion: give Alexander Mongol-era tech, like steel armor and weapons, stirrup, etc.
