That isn't a slip. That has been the great boon of living in a wealthy productive society. Cheaper production leads to more luxury for more people for less, and has done pretty reliably. Why is wanting more of that negative? Damn right more for my pockets with less work. If that isn't the goal, why don't we all just go back to scraping tubers out of the cold hard earth our whole short, miserable lives? More work with less for my pockets carry with it some moral enrichment?

The trend of shrinking production costs is likely to continue without strong AI or replicators. That could easily be a benefit for just about everybody.
