Even if this thread has gone long way forward (talking everything else), I'll reply here.Smitty-48 wrote:Recce by death? OK, Ivan, good luck with that I guess.ssu wrote: Seems like the Russians are doing some recon on just where the US stands.
I mean, CENTCOM commander is Gen. Joe Votel, Mountain, Airborne, Ranger, CIB with Star, his last command was JSOC; fuckin' with the wrong guy, Ivan.
It ain't George Clooney in the White House, pretty sure Joe has the green light to seriously fuck anybody up who makes a hostile move towards US forces, could have told you that Ivan, and saved you the trouble.
Yep, Russian recon is not to go for some geographical point, but go as far as possible until you hit the enemy. And not care a shit about casualties. This disregard for casualties has been still evident in the modern wars against Georgia and Ukraine. Units get decimated in battle isn't a disaster, it's just war. Hence looking at how the US will respond to attacking it's proxies is that recon.
I agree. The thing is that now I assume the leadership of the military actions in the Middle East is really with the generals... especially when you add Mattis and McMaster as generals to the mix. And the Tweeter-in-Chief's tweets don't mess up the situation, there's no rocket man here. When the opposition is Putin, Trump won't mess up the situation. This is actually one of the good things about the Trump administration, because with a Hillary administration you definately had the political appointees trying to do something terrible and giving the military disasterous and unobtainable objectives. Now it's a show run by the military.
