Re: Europe Boring Until it's Not
Nobody in the West has a monster like S-400, for the Russian in the Cy-35C, the NATO type SAM is coming at him very slow, he see's it a long ways off, and has plenty of time to jam, chaff, and dance away, Finland could fire their entire inventory of 144 SLAMRAAM's and not hit one Cy-35C, because the Cy-35C is never going to come down low and slow into the NASAM's envelope, it would be a waste of rounds to fire them at the Flanker's, save the SLAMRAAM's for the Frogfoot's.
A NATO SAM is not just low energy, it doesn't turn worth a shit, the Cy-35C can sustain 9g, and thrust vector, the SAM could never keep up in a turn with him, it's like a bull and a matador, the Flanker just dances aside and the SAM goes blowing right past.
Even if I was driving a Raptor, I wouldn't bother with the AMRAAM's because they're gonna miss and then Ivan is going to know where you are, so I would exploit the F-22's stealth to get up in the saddle on him unawares, then go for a gun kill.
If I was driving a Finnish F/A-18C? I'd prepare to eject, because against Flanker-E I'm in deep shit, can't out run him, can't out climb him, can't out turn him, and all my missiles are likely to miss if I take a BVR shot at him, so pretty much Kobayashi Maru.

Yeah. You're going to "dance" around something doing Mach 5. And of course we could only ever get 1 shot off. Ridiculous dude.
Also, I'd love to know how a fighter pilot does 9g and stays conscious.

The thing about missiles is; tiny little wings; they don't turn, they can't pull g's, it's actually quite easy for a contemporary high performance fighter to evade the type of SAM's NATO employs.
As for 9g sustained, it's a matter of conditioning, ain't no thang for a fighter pilot to execute the min-rad turn at 9g sustained, Eurofioghter Typhoon, F-22, and Cy-35C pilots do it every day.

Mach 5. Even if you survive one of them, the next will get you. Forget it. You're off your game.Smitty-48 wrote:The thing about missiles is; tiny little wings; they don't turn, they can't pull g's, it's actually quite easy for a contemporary high performance fighter to evade the type of SAM's NATO employs.
And then what? Russia has a squadron of fighter jets in NATO airspace free to.... do barrel rolls? Blow up a factory? Useless, outdated methodology.
All that matters are the missiles brushing the edge of space and rainin Hell upon Earth.

Everybody reading this knows that you have absolutely no clue what you're talking about, I'm really just talking past you rather than to you.GrumpyCatFace wrote:Mach 5. The kinematics on an AMRAAM are weak, on the SL-AMRAAM even weaker, no chance they hit a high and fast Cy-35C with that.

I know as much as any layman about the topic of warfare, and I'm quite skeptical in the evasion abilities of any fighter vs. a modern SAM.Smitty-48 wrote:Everybody reading this knows that you have absolutely no clue what you're talking about, I'm really just talking past you rather than to you.GrumpyCatFace wrote:Mach 5. But my main point, again, is what's the point? You fly some jets around, evading SAMs until... NATO surrenders? It's nonsense. Just another boondoggle for old generals to spunk over.

Neither is Ukraine. But we sure managed to get concerned over it. Come to think of it, neither are Iraq or Afghanistan, where we are so concerned about Ivan's backing of the other side. Was Vietnam part of NATO?Smitty-48 wrote:Finland; is not in NATO.GrumpyCatFace wrote:

Re: Europe Boring Until it's Not
NATO SAM's aint that modern, like I said, the US and NATO have not invested in SAM's, it's all updated tech from the 60's, the US and NATO stopped preparing to fight an opponent with a formidable air force, decades ago, it's the Russians who have invested in A2/AD, not the US and NATO, the US and NATO have invested in offensive weapons, while ignoring air defense, because air supremacy has been asumed.GrumpyCatFace wrote:I know as much as any layman about the topic of warfare, and I'm quite skeptical in the evasion abilities of any fighter vs. a modern SAM.
Thus, if the Russians have to shoot down a NATO high performance fighter, ain't no thang unless it's VLO F-22/F-35, S-400 is a monster against 4Gen, NATO however, has no asnwer to this, there is no NATO equivalent of S-400.

But you're too scared to actually defend it, Ivan could roll to the Dnieper and you wouldn't get in his way, neither would the Ukrainian air defenses, which he would knock down in an afternoon.GrumpyCatFace wrote:Neither is Ukraine. But we sure managed to get concerned over it.
I seriously doubt the US would actually risk World War Three for Finland neither, they don't have Article V, they choose to be neutral, that gives America the out it would be looking for, and Ivan well knows it.
Finland has no defense against the VVS, the Russian air force could bring Finland to its knees and a matter of days, and while NATO would not like it, NATO would not go to war against Russia, for neutral Finland.
It's no wonder that ssu is such a Russia alarmist, when you're sitting in Finland, Russia does warrant some level of considerable alarm.
