But making an omelet is as simple as pumping your own gas. So why does one case provoke indifference and the other shock?

It's because you're used to it, and you don't care, and no one does, just like the phony pump your own gas question. But thanks for indicating your credibility. Self-sufficient DIYers? More like jack-in-the-box reactionary clowns, just crank the handle the right way and the phony, maudlin, outrage clowns pop out, complete with tear stained constitution and empty beer cans. This is why nobody takes any of you seriously, why no one even bothers to address your points in real life.
Still in denial about this. Lobbyists campaign to outlaw pumping your own gas to prop up private interests, and you eat it right the fuck up.

Them bringing food out to you on a grill is not the same as going into a restaurant kitchen and preparing your own meal, it's against regulations to do that. Whether the idea of a restaurant is for someone else to cook for you, or whether most gas stations let you pump your own gas is irrelevant, a distinction without a difference to the analogy I gave. You are not allowed to do something you could otherwise easily do in both situations, because of government regulations, your freedom has been quashed in both cases, only reason you're chirping about one and not the other is you're used to not being able to go into kitchens in restaurants, you don't question it. We're used to not having to pump our own gas, so we don't question it, and rightfully so.

Again Okeenofee, the means by which a law is passed does not affect the suitability of the law itself in any given situation, go huck your non-points and fallacies elsewhere.

People go to restaurants for the experience of having something served to them that they can’t get elsewhere. They do not go to gas stations because they want an experience.

Would you feel the same if another state banned shopping for your own groceries?

Here's what I love about forums... we all agree/disagree in one thread or several, but except for one lone Nanny State Oregonian, we can all agree on this moronic situation.

How well trained does the government in Oregon have these people? They are convinced you need a "technician" to pump gas.

Love it... love this thread - please tell us more about how nanny tucks you in at night, JohnDonne. Are you allowed to wipe your own asses?

Again, distinction without a difference, the free market could sort the restaurants out but you accept regulations anyway. At least our law creates jobs.

This thread is really rank virtue signaling of a special class of non-desirables who we don’t want in Oregon anyhow. If it keeps you lot out then the law has justified itself on those grounds alone.

While food and gas are both fuel, the experiences are not the same. Unless, you think a good date is going to the gas station to have the tank filled, in which case, your analogy is perfect. Most people see gas stations as a chore and restaurants as an experience.

Are you allowed to decide to kill yourself when you have a terminal illness? Who has the nanny state again?

Pumping your own gas is really not so hazardous as you seem to believe. I managed to have accomplished this feat about once a week for two decades almost. Eventually I'll get complacent and let my guard down I know. That's why I train with a mock fuel pump daily.
