Do we all think that the most powerful military state in the history of the world would show the same restraint putting down an insurgency of her own people as she shows in someplace like Afghanistan, limited drone strikes and working or trying to work with local counter revolutionaries?
You're making a lot of stupid assumptions

Google: 4chan red team planner
I am only questioning the assumption that we can model an American insurgency on what has happened in other parts of the world.

You got that one backwards. Other parts of the world modeled insurgencies, in part, on the American example.

Really, examples (plural) when you look at what happened in Texas.
That is the crux ain't it though. The successful American insurgency happened against a power across the world with aid from another power. It is a model that works for insurgents in Afghanistan (kind of) but might not work in Kentucky anymore.

Mind you, I am not supporting dismantling the 2nd... I just think piling on Grumpy for questioning the logic that we can use that right to cast off the shackles of our state is silly.

You're flailing by trying to highlight meaningless distinctions.

There is no way an occupying force could lock down America without murdering at least half of us and totally enslaving the rest.

And with respect to our own federal government and the military.. they are highly specialized at destroying other large armed forces. They are terrible at dealing with insurgencies. Just absolutely useless. There are a few good guys in there that understand it, but they come and go. There exists no real culture or even mission to deal with this type of shit.

I would be more worried about occupation by something like the PRC than our own government. Our own government would fail woefully at it.

Well, I'm not too worried about a PRC occupation since, as a wise man with more knowledge of military operations than I once said:
with respect to our own federal government and the military.. they are highly specialized at destroying other large armed forces.
Other than that, I still imagine that an American insurgency against the American feds faces some challenges that are absolutely unique, challenges that aren't completely overcome by the ownership of small arms by the citizens.

Running an insurgency is quite a lot easier than COIN.

Also, isn't there something rather absurd in needing written permission from the State to rebel against the State?
