What about the US meddling in other countries elections? Still no one pointing out the blatant hypocrisy?

Because (recently) we just do it straight out--on television--so, it's okay.Hastur wrote:What about the US meddling in other countries elections? Still no one pointing out the blatant hypocrisy?
It's so cute when he says "queue," as if Americans ever use the word.

Yeah, lucky that Trump was above all that shit.....
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

(Setting aside what "the media" is reporting on for a sec...)Hastur wrote:What about the US meddling in other countries elections? Still no one pointing out the blatant hypocrisy?
Depends if people are saying that all meddling, in all forms, should be illegal instead of simply countered, does it not? Simply pointing out that Russia is trying to influence US politics (like they always have) is not a hypocritical act, no matter what one does themselves, though. That's like saying it's "hypocricy" to care more about your own country than it is to care about your neighbouring country. Or that it is "hypocritical" to criticize a country invading an ally of yours, if your own country once invaded a country that had an ally.
Russia has and should have every right to try and influence the public in any US or NATO country elections, as well as try and influence the public debate, to whatever extent they want, in order to achieve whatever geopolitical goal benefits them. Part of being western, liberal democracies means that we afford them that freedom to influence us. I think alot of the posters here certainly remember Nuland's phone being tapped. They didn't question the authenticity of the recording as "fake news" and some indeed repeated the RT narrative of Ukraine being "Nazis" as fact and as a legitimizing of the Crimean annexation. What wonders a change of presidency can do, eh?
And the US and Western public (and governments) has every right to counter any narratives that benefit "them" (wether we're talking Russia, globalists, whatever), but does not benefit us. It would be hypocritical, and immensely counterproductive for the propagation of your own narratives abroad, to try and legally and politically limit the freedom of other powers to communicate to your own public and officials. Illuminating the nature and provenance of a narrative, and countering it, though... not hypocritical.
Does the media generally devote a lot of time to the latter...? True, they do not, so if you were referring to the media in your post, I agree with the unsaid sentiment. They don't seem to devote much time, generally, to researching their stories it seems. And like in Europe, we see them becoming part of the power establishment, losing their original purpose of being gatekeepers between a wider, representative public and those in power. There has been a strange shift over the span of this decade. Once, it was a leftist position to hate American "imperalism", its foreign interventions and they'd focus on its "Illegal wars". Today, that narrative is still a part of the European far-left, but both the American leftists and our resident..."Neo-Right"-wingers (?) paint Russia as the victim of unfair American aggression during the Ukrainian nonsense and their own country's foreign meddling as harmful and wrong.
Fame is not flattery. Respect is not agreement.

If they had any evidence other than speculation we wouldn't call it fake news. It isn't fake news that Russia wanted to influence the US election, but it is fake news that they have proof of Russian meddling in the election to any meaningful degree that they are willing to share with the public. The difference between us and you, is that we don't jump to conclusions about the latter story being true just because the Russian wanted to meddle in the US election, have meddled in other nations and the experts say to take their word for it that they did.
You think that standard of evidence is enough, we think that standard is fairly laughable.

Paleo cons and the libertarian right have always, always hated American interventionalism. If anything that's the one thing that has been kept alive from the Ron Paul movement among the younger generation. Unless you are of course a democrat whom seem to have Russia on the Brain in a bad way."Neo-Right"-wingers (?)
