Yes. If anyone suffers from the tempest and turmoil of an unpredictable economy, it’s the public sector employees. We all long for the day when economic unpredictability will no longer produce photographs of hollow-cheeked, vacant-eyed, government workers on wagon trails headed west.

Yeah, my "misrepresentations". Want a cross for your martyr act? Or is paying taxes for public education denying you that liberty, too?DBTrek wrote:The argument stands, in spite of your desperate and repeated misrepresentations. Since it has provoked such a petty response from you I’m going to keep mentioning this fact until you finally keel over in cardiac arrest.

The state usually provides the cross.
No doubt there would be plenty of bitching about the market distortions that causes as well.

Still maintaining a rage-filled, content devoid, post streak, eh?
Did I mention that you failed to refute a single claim in my argument? Perhaps you were too busy feeling entitled to the taxpayers money to notice. After all, if you can’t gang up on them behind closed doors and fleece them while they have no one to advocate on their behalf, then it’s not Danish “liberty”.

The second you present an argument that I haven't already replied to ad infinitum already, DB, I'd be more than happy to reply to that. Untill then, you feel free to act like I am "enraged"... apparantly, you are so sure you're losing the argument, you keep trying to pull a "you mad, bro?" out of your ass.
I refuted your defense of denying people freedom if it's economically inconvenient to you (which is an emotionally and subjective argument from you) by referencing that liberty isn't just about your freedom (which is also a subjective argument from me - believing that freedom and liberty has value is after all, entirely subjective).
I presented several options to you that would help your government gain more leverage against the horrible and all-powerful injustice of public unions. It's called a lockout, and I already posted one example of that having happened in the US - although the story does point out how rare those are.

All public wages should be frozen until they are behind private wages.Hanarchy Montanarchy wrote: Not for nothing, but a lot of public employees have been subject to spending freezes and furloughs for the past few years, Now that the economy is doing well, 5% isn't a huge ask. If it were me, I would caution against spending increases until we see what the oddly timed and basically unprecedented tax stimulus does... but that is because I am naturally risk-averse.

Teachers at the school (st. rose) I grew up with and the school my kids will attend get paid fair less than the public ones. They (st rose) produce far better results with far less $$$ to work with.Speaker to Animals wrote:nmoore63 wrote:All public wages should be frozen until they are behind private wages.Hanarchy Montanarchy wrote: Not for nothing, but a lot of public employees have been subject to spending freezes and furloughs for the past few years, Now that the economy is doing well, 5% isn't a huge ask. But my claim applies to everything, not just teachers.
Government jobs come with un-fire-able security. I don't see much of a solution to that problem, as said benefits will always be better than the private sector, so the direct wage compensation should always be lower.

I know a few public employees, and most of them are happy to take a lower wage in exchange for more comprehensive retirement and health benefits. For the most part, this is (or was) the case.nmoore63 wrote:Teachers at the school (st. rose) I grew up with and the school my kids will attend get paid fair less than the public ones. It is possible that management is getting justifiably skittish about promising future compensation these days, and so the unions are moving towards bargaining for straight wage increases instead. If we want to put the burden on them to start negotiating for general wage increases in the field before they get theirs, that might not be so bad, what with private sector collective bargaining being what it is.
There is something sort of 'race to the bottom-y' about the idea, but that might be needed to reign in spending.
