Ok. Now I got your point.DBTrek wrote:Why are you quizzing me about inflation?

2017 minimum wages by state?
Alaska; $9.80
Arizona; $10
Arkansas; $8.50
California; $10.50
Colorado; $9.30
Connecticut; $10.10
Florida; $8.10
Hawaii; $9.25
Maine; $9.00
Maryland; $9.25
Massachusetts; $11
Michigan; $8.90
Missouri; $7.70
Montana; $8.15
New Jersey; $8.44
New York; $9.70
Ohio; $8.15
Oregon; $10.25
South Dakota; $8.65
Vermont; $10
Washington; $9.47
So, basically Missouri is getting screwed, everybody else is pretty much on target, inflation adjusted.
When I have time later I'll send something that argues against that. Unfortunately can't look it up and get into depth now

Yes, I'm quite sure you will truck out some internetz feelz in the face of the iron logic of cold hard math, but then we won't be talking about economics anymore, at which point, I'll prolly just flip back to baseball.Viktorthepirate wrote:When I have time later I'll send something that argues against that. I've go different numbers than you. But I can't refute it without checking the math myself.Smitty-48 wrote:Yes, I'm quite sure you will truck out some internetz feelz in the face of the iron logic of cold hard math, but then we won't be talking about economics anymore, at which point, I'll prolly just flip back to baseball.Viktorthepirate wrote:When I have time later I'll send something that argues against that. Re: American's living Paycheck to Paycheck
Pretty simple, I looked up the average minimum wage in the mid 70s, basically all around $2, then I calculated inflation from 1970's dollars to 2017 dollars, which said that the comparable minimum wage should be roughly around $9, then I looked up what the state minimum wages were, and presto; rouhgly around $9. Henry Ford understood that. That's why he wanted to make cars affordable and paid his works well because they were not just his workers, they were his customers as well. Big Business today just cares about bigger and bigger profits as they should but not at the expense of cutting off their noses spite their faces. That is just economic rot taking place. Give it another 20 years going down this path and half the country will resemble Detroit.ssu wrote:Well, it's nice that true innovators today can be millionaires / billionaires thanks to the financial system. But do wages really show the productivity of one's work?Speaker to Animals wrote:Most Americans, in my estimation, have very little reason to complain about not getting paid for their productivity. It's only a small group of people who are driving all this innovation and productivity gains.
Guess lawyers are just awesome in their innovation and productivity gains.
The best wage increases for any economy is when people just below middle class get up to be middle class. They are the biggest spenders and create that so important demand. Rich people basically just invest their money. Now that's a good thing too, but isn't a driver for economic growth.
There is a time for good men to do bad things.

My wages did go up when I moved here in May. I work less than my accustomed 62 hours a week on two jobs, and still make more. I'll admit to it being nice, though that 23 days in a row with no day off two weeks ago was interesting. Just got my schedule looks like I'm going for it again.Smitty-48 wrote:Yes, sorry, you're right, they just bumped it up from $9.47, so flip those fries with glee, son, you're way ahead of inflation naow.jediuser598 wrote:Washington minimum wage is $11.Smitty-48 wrote:

But to get overtime? There's no overtime. Want more than 40 hours? Get a second job. No time and a half with a second job.
Was talking to this one fellow at my second job, said his last day off was about 5 months ago. That's rather impressive, too bad his girlfriend takes all his money and gambles it away. He clears about 36k a year, and saves nothing, girlfriend spends it all.

Basically I got something like 1969 minimum equaled close to 30k (today's dollars) or something like that and federal minimum wage is worth like 15k
I gotta do the math again fucker, be patient. It was like 6 months ago when I did it.

Federal minimum wage is $7.25, which is slightly behind the curve, with Missouri basically, but since the state minimum wages are ahead of the federal minimum wage, FMW really has nothing to do with the price of tea in China, basically you're just searching for the lowest minumum wage you can find, in order to assert that as the case writ large, which is known as a specific to general fallacy,Viktorthepirate wrote:I did the same thing and got different numbers.Smitty-48 wrote:Pretty simple, I looked up the average minimum wage in the mid 70s, basically all around $2, then I caculated inflation from 1970's dollars to 2017 dollars, which said that the comparable minimum wage should be roughly around $9, then I looked up what the state minimum wages were, and presto; rouhgly around $9. That would be like me just cherry picking the highest state minimum wage in isolation and calculating American minimum wages as being in the $11 range, instead of what I did, which was present the full spectrum around $9
But you of course, are apprently ruled by your feelz, so you will search for any fallacy which will underpin your assumptions, reflexively. That's called a confirmation bias by the way.
