The Olympics totally used to be about amateurs. The 1980 USA hockey team rocked it, even against Russia's, ahem, "amateurs."

Much as the MOI was a great Cinderella story, it wasn't a case where anybody thought Team USA was better than Red Army, whereas now, Team USA with its NHL players is a real deal hockey superpower, but if Auston Matthews is not playing, can't say I'm too interested, the IIHF World Championship is the best on best now, without the NHL players, the Olympic Tournament is just the Spengler Cup, which, can't say I really care who wins the Spengler Cup.

Wherever Auston Matthews is playing, that's where I'm watching, which is not going to be in Korea, for best on best international, I'll just wait out for the IIHF WC.

Leafs Nation is already subsidizing half the NHL, we're not subsidizing the Olympics on top, Leafs Nation wants the salary cap to go up, the Olympics is not helping with that, the NHL World Cup is, NHL World Cup is hockey related revenue, and hockey related revenue is what Leafs Nation is looking for, if the Olympics ain't paying up, I'm not sending muh Auston to play for them, and if muh Auston is not playing, there's nothing to watch, simple as that.
