Sorry, 10 murders in a town of 1,000 is far, far worse than 10 murders in a town of 10,000. This isn't hard math.GloryofGreece wrote:Quantity has a quality all of it own. 1,000 + people killing, wounding, robbing, and pillaging is far too many for any so called civilized city.
Small is beautiful. Cities are too large and chaotic. Entropy alone makes it too difficult to keep order.

Ahh, throw that old fun statistic baby out with the water, please.Kath wrote:Per capita, TC. Look at murder rates, not number of murders.
St. Louis has 311,404 (estimated)
Greater St. Louis has 2.9 Million.
Chicago has 9.4 Million people.
So if you are talking per capita the numbers are already skewed. If you want to be taken seriously, place them on equal footing and you'll see that Chicago still outranks St. Louis in all aspects. Since most choose Greater St. Louis, we will use that as a stat...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_in_St._Louis
Greater St. Louis has 30.85% the population of Chicago, so lets even out the numbers.
Both broken down to 2.9 Million.
St. Louis has 199 Murders to date.
Chicago has 203 Murders to date per the 2.9 million calculations.
Lets put it another way.
St. Louis to equal Chicago's numbers would require 9.39 Million people. That would only still be 644.76. Less than Chicago.
Either way, the numbers don't tell the whole story when it comes to statistical data...
Chicago is more dangerous than St. Louis.

Chicago's murder rate per 100,000 people is 17.5
St Louis' murder rate per 100,000 people is 59.3

Because Chicago has a greater population, you even out the population and I already showed you the numbers still put Chicago as the most dangerous. You can't compare the two equally with a 30% population difference and not expect numbers to be skewed in favor of the smaller one, since the smaller one would have a greater reaction to any changes overall.Kath wrote:Chicago's murder rate per 100,000 people is 17.5

Would you rather live in a society where 10 out of every 100 were murdered or in a society where 20 out of every 10000 were murdered? You can only choose one of these two.The Conservative wrote:Because Chicago has a greater population, you even out the population and I already showed you the numbers still put Chicago as the most dangerous. By your logic, you'd choose the city where 10 in every 100 were murdered.

Did I say that? I am pointing out that the murder rate can't be compared equally without adjusting the numbers. If I had a choice of where to live, I'd rather live in NC, but what do I know, you seem to know me better than I know myself just because you have an "Asperger" son...Kath wrote:Would you rather live in a society where 10 out of every 100 were murdered or in a society where 20 out of every 10000 were murdered? Lol... the murder rate IS taking that into account, TC. The whole "per 100,000" is how it adjusts the numbers. The Conservative wrote:

Yea i understand the math. But dead bodies are bad and the more you have generally the worse it is, right? So in a different way again the more you have the worse it is. Its not always about per capita (that is significant) it is also about the amount of slain souls every single day in shit holes across this Continent. Clean it up. Not just Chicago but St. Louis, Detroit, Baltimore, New Orleans, Houston, etc. those places have entire sections, neighborhoods that are dilapidated, crime ridden incarnations of hell in America. Its an embarrassment. And it sickening really. Why tolerate that type of disorder in our nation?Kath wrote:Chicago's murder rate per 100,000 people is 17.5

Because people look at per-capita instead of the real number and say "Meh!"GloryofGreece wrote:Yea i understand the math.
