China is not America. They will build their civilization along the trajectory that is distinctly Chinese. They have not bought into your ridiculous notion that everything is arbitrary. They are doing their thing in a distinctly Chinese way. Does it suck? For us, sure, because we are European people with our own proclivities and biases. They don't much care for our ways either.

But is the bottom level of Chinese society better off for the "capitalism" the communist party has allowed to flourish? Yep.

The people of the former Soviet Republics were raised out of poverty by Communism, but since the fall of the Soviet Union, they are using Capitalism, and are again picking cotton by hand. Communism gave them opportunity that crony Capitalism does not.

There are Chinese laborers who are seeking assistance (from western labor organizations and the freer western media environment) in breaking apart their government's monopoly on trade unionism in order to make capitalism work better for the bottom level of Chinese society.

Saying that this is just western paternalism trying to force western values on the Chinese shows a lack of understanding of the current Chinese labor situation.

First One-Child policy, then planned economy, then Capitalism Zones, now limited Free Markets. Social Democrats, like in Australia, think they should stop there.

That ain't what bothers me.

What bothers me is that his arguments accept the Marxist claim that the only way capitalism can thrive is if the most desperate portions of the population are exploited for cheap labor.

As a fan of capitalism, I rather reject that notion, and think any one that presents it as an argument in favor of capitalism must not really understand the subject, and ought not be giving lectures.
