Regarding the 1-year starvation plan, what do you suppose the millions of us with kids will do? Or elderly parents? Or disabled relatives? Your hypothesis works for middle-aged and young healthy/obese people, but how much Dickens have you read?
He and I have already stated how it would work out, there would be a loss of life, quite a bit of it. but those who survive will do so, and probably continue to do so. I already have plans in place if something happened like that for my family.
As do I. But it's ridiculous to be so cavalier about millions of people dying - and equally ridiculous to think that your selected region will be free of this because "God and Guns" or other nonsense. It would be a time of mass chaos across the nation, unless you're shacked up in Alaska or a desert somewhere.

Not as much as you think - most inner city proles can't afford cars - and those that can - well...I imagine gas would be in quite short supply....

Fuck Ton
The acceptable weight at which a man is willing to have intercourse with a woman, plus one ton.
Whew man, take a look at Samantha—she is really packing in on. Yah bro, she’s about a fuck ton too many for me.

Ok. But if you tell too many people to fuck themselves, somebody is going to fuck you back. ;)

Shit never goes bad - that will get your through 1-5 years easily.

36 lbs bucket of flour: $55
http://www.thrivelife.com/white-flour-4172.html

20 lbs bucket of oats: $50
http://www.thrivelife.com/quick-oats-987.html

42 lbs bucket of rice: $70
http://www.thrivelife.com/white-rice-3904.html

35 lbs bucket of cornmeal: $82.00
http://www.thrivelife.com/cornmeal-3908.html

28 lbs bucket of instant milk: $145
http://www.thrivelife.com/milk-powder.html

16 lbs of black beans: $85
http://www.thrivelife.com/instant-black-beans.html

2.34 lbs of butter powder: $30
http://www.thrivelife.com/butter-powder-1082.html

48 lbs of salt: $58.00
http://www.thrivelife.com/iodized-salt-1094.html
(note: get plenty of salt for preserving meat and trading)

26 lbs of brown sugar: $69.00
http://www.thrivelife.com/brown-sugar-1078.html

That would carry you through quite a while. You'd still need to worry about meat and green vegetables. Those things get expensive in freeze-dried form. But you need only make it for about a year at most before your heirloom seeds yield food anyway.

Potatoes. You can not only survive but thrive on potatoes alone. You can grow them in big pots or stacks of old tires.

For extra protein get some egg laying hens and a rooster.
