Rio should serve as a warning to other countries about the costs of hosting the Olympics. The images of nearly abandoned venues have surfaced at a time when costs of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics have reportedly doubled to $12.6 billion, up from the $6 billion that was projected when Tokyo won the bid in 2013.
But can you still get free rubbers in Rio this summer?
Guess there's not a lot of people in Brazil that can afford "luxury condos".
They'd probably be a big upgrade for a lot of the poor, but couldn't do that - they'll just let them fall apart until the plumbing is leaking, concrete falling apart, etc... Then maybe the indigent poor can move in.

At a time when numerous potential hosts have backed away, concerned about the billions of dollars required to stage the Games, it would behoove the Olympic movement to secure two strong candidates through the next decade.

We'd be better off just building one permanent Olympic village in Greece and holding the games there every year. Maybe build another village in Switzerland for the winter games.

Each games have more contestants and more viewers than ever. They are a fantastic success story.
