Yeah... that's a bit close, might even go through parts of the M113 at that range.

Probably because we don't teach our citizens anything about firearms:

Anyone who understands what a .50 cal round is, knows damn well you're not going to stop it with a book.
Jeez.

We'd wrap out M113's in books if that worked.
As is, a .50 cal can tear right through on of them.
Desert Eagle .50 loads the .50 Action Express, that's only 12.7x33mm, .50 BMG is 12.7x99mm, just sayun, not the same cartridge, to say the least, .50 AE is half the bullet moving at half the velocity. Basically a boutique caliber, but aerodyamics and penetration is prolly not its strong suit, more of a massive wound channel inflictor, could a thick hardcover book stop it? Could certainly dissipate a lot of it, my buddy used to shoot .45 ACP indoors in his basement, using a wet phone book as a backstop, and that pretty much stopped them cold. Was the greater Toronto phone book mind you, I wouldn't try that with a small town phone book of course.
The single gunshot was fired from about one foot (30cm) away as neighbours gathered to watch outside their Minnesota home.
Not from a fucking foot away! God damn and they had an audience.
...and apparently not a one of them was smart enough to stop them and say "this is a really stupid and dangerous idea"?

With "friends" like that... Well, I guess he doesn't have any enemies anymore.

Muzzle velocity would drop way off right quick with a pistol round, but at 30cm, yeah, you're probably eating the full 1500 lb-ft from there.

They did this with just a book? No vest backing it up? .50 AE, get some Level IIIA for that shit.

Step back about five feet and wear a plate, prolly just knock the wind outa yea.

I mean, I don't know how much you'd be into walking around with inserts all the time, but would still prolly save you from a Desert Eagle centre of mass. .50 BMG, wouldn't save you obviously, but maybe the guy standing behind you, if you were wearing front and back.

Didn't say friends said neighbors. I doubt any them had any idea what was going on. If I saw something like that I would think like that is a toy or they must have some special effects.

Well . . . that's disappointing.

Velocity doesn't always mean better.

BMG is 1,219 m/s muzzle velocity
DE is 470 m/s muzzle velocity

Almost a 1/3 difference.

Sorry to disappoint, but I don't see how we could cram 12.7x99mm into a handgun for you, however, if you're willing to go to a revolver, we can offer you the S&W 500 Magnum, at 12.7x41mmSR.
