Most of the pollution in Chine is the result of the government either being bribed to look the other way and/or no regulations/lax regulations. Obviously one of the main reasons why it's so cheap to produce in China is because their lax environmental laws not to mention the fact that their wages are very low compared to US workers.

I am also not forgetting that it is much easier to bribe someone in from the government in China but they really do have a problem when it comes to pollution. Most of it all comes from the factories that are actually Western owed by employed Chinese workers.
