I also got the impression Venezuela's problem was more of an 'all the eggs in one basket' sort of thing. Not saying a command economy is a good way to manage affairs, but I am pretty sure they drop in oil prices would have crippled their economy and led to all sorts of problems no matter how it was organized.
Yes true. The rampant corruption does make it much much worse. At least basic supplies and food would still be available.
Everyone's gotta get their VIG playa. Can't grease the wheels with morality.
Sure, but it seems after stealing the money, and silverware, then the furniture followed by the fixtures, they've gone to stealing the trees, bushes, and rolling up the lawn. :-)
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Venezuela was never "Communist", nor is this a natural, inevitable result of socialist programs. The hyperbole around here is just amazing to me.

As mentioned, the country is failing because it had effectively a single source of GDP - oil. Once that wasn't stable at $100/barrel, they were doomed. Add to that some incredibly stupid price control measures and corruption, and it looks very much like they'll be starving in the streets.

Not every failed economy is Communist. Not every socialist program invokes the USSR.
SJWs are a natural consequence of corporatism.

It is more fun to imagine the destruction of Venezuela is some sort of weird moral vindication of free markets. Quite trying to kill all the rock hard 'told ya so' boners.
HAIL!

The Scanner countries all run off their oil money. Their socialism could have never survived if Americans weren't paying for it by buying high-priced oil back-in-the-day. The difference between them & Venezuela is that idiots run Venezuela, and never socked their profits into giant funds that could be distributed to The People forever.

p.s. In the U.S., the profits all go to individuals. Contrary to Nationalism ideals, The People in the U.S. let private individuals own the natural resources of an entire nation.

Of course you expect the people who actually got off their ass and built the largest energy industry in the world to pay you for doing jack shit. of course you do.

Hey, my neighbor has chickens. Those are neighborhood chickens, right? She can't claim those as individual chickens. They belong to all of us. Be right back.

It's not fair that she has more chickens than you.

The 1% have their enablers. I'll let them recruit from this forum when the time comes.

You'll make a good Overseer. (Do you already have a whip, or can I buy you one for Christmas?)

No whip. I think I'd like some hounds better.
