A lot of them will have maybe a few months of food, so they will stick around for a while. The problem is that they "prep" for some kind of Fallout New Vegas world instead of stockpiling LOTS of food, tools, means to produce food, etc. Some of them are pretty fucking scary too, talking about becoming raiders or whatever.

Yeah, that's the problem. They're the ones that will be raping and pillaging to stay alive, that the people that can actually make it on their own have to guard against.

You need to build a community of people who can band together and help each other out in hard times. This includes a great depression, which in my opinion is what people really need to plan for.

Agreed with that. I have a loose affiliation with such a group, but it won't do a lot of good unless we all relocated next to each other. I guess everything is a matter of handling what you can, and improvising the rest. Always a good idea to know your neighbors well though.

The people who go to a gun range all the time and prepare for some kind of apocalyptic battlefield are going to be a big problem whenever law and order are interrupted.

But so too are all the liberals in the cities with maybe three to five days worth of food on hand..

Preppers come in a lot of varieties. We should team up for the fun of it and categorize them. I think you are dead on with the LARPing variety. But there is also the Old Hippie who grows 6,000 lbs of food on 1/10th of an acre. Anyway, yeah, I agree a partial collapse of society like the Depression I think is much more realistic and actually the wise thing to prep for. Because, we know all Societies go through this in varying degrees of intensity at some point. And with not only the US debt, but Global debt numbers being what they are it seems, well, frankly, inevitable. Add to that the increasing ability of hackers to hack into our infrastructure systems, I think we can expect disruptions in the future.

Yeah, my response could have better phrased too. It's a good topic, human and sex trafficking in crisis situations. Dan did a great job talking about this with his Ostfront Series. I do have to say of my own experiences, I've been shocked about what people will do both voluntary and inflicting on others. Years ago when I went through SERE, they taught that we've never had a female POW who wasn't raped. While not often discussed we've had small numbers of women captured by enemy forces in most conflicts.

BOGOTA, Colombia —

Facing a bread shortage that is spawning massive lines and souring the national mood, the Venezuelan government is responding this week by detaining bakers and seizing establishments.

In a press release, the National Superintendent for the Defense of Socioeconomic Rights said it had charged four people and temporarily seized two bakeries as the socialist administration accused bakers of being part of a broad “economic war” aimed at destabilizing the country.
