I'm generally not worried about JWRs golden horde of bandit raiders. Historically, rarely happens. Thieves yes, opportunists, but name me the war Lords of the great depression.

Today they’re known as the gangsters of the roaring 20s. Capone, Meyer, etc. The state only maintained control by arming the tax collectors.

Hell, in coal country, the companies had private armies and their own law systems.

Further back in the 1890s, they were the robber barons of the west. Again, private armies, and no state control.

I've followed James Howard Kuntsler's Clusterfuck Nation blog for quite a few years. He's predicted the long emergency for 20 years, now says we're deeply into it. The long emergency is about the collapse of complex society and infrastructure. He's worth reading or listening to.

I almost wonder, though, if the government as we know it now collapses, would it really? Would we just see the government become small and take care of what needed to be taken care of so SHTF really won't be nukes getting out, etc...

I almost wonder if we need a partial collapse to realign everything once more back to where the people have control and the government is there for it's original purpose?
