Always prepare a bridge to carry more than you expect.SuburbanFarmer wrote: ↑Sun Mar 26, 2023 10:14 amI won’t know for sure until we get there, but the water is about 10’ wide, swift flowing, with a gentle slope on the sides. I’m thinking some kind of arched design would work best, to avoid a huge span.C-Mag wrote: ↑Sun Mar 26, 2023 9:50 amI design little bridges from time to time.SuburbanFarmer wrote: ↑Sat Mar 25, 2023 10:45 amIn prep news, the new property has 2 acres on the other side of a creek. Imma be building a bridge at some point, to pasture pigs in the trees back there.
Any general ideas of load capacity using wood vs steel or something?
What's your span ? Width of the creek at the high water mark ?
What's the load you want it to carry ?
What wisth do you want ?
Note
Your foundation or abuttments on each side are critical.
What's your span ?
For weight, I only need a gator with the occasional 500 lbs of feed or dead pig in tow.

Your bridge is going to be a lot longer than you are probably thinking.
But they can be built without enormous expense

You could make it short, but the arc would be rather interesting.

For a few years, not sure how genetics work with chickens... but don't you need to introduce an outside variant otherwise, brothers and sisters may not produce good egg layers?SuburbanFarmer wrote: ↑Fri Apr 14, 2023 8:00 amEgg supply secured.

These are all hens. I’ve got 30 red rangers coming next week (mixed sex). I’ll pick the best cock and keep him with the ladies. The Conservative wrote: ↑Fri Apr 14, 2023 9:09 amFor a few years, not sure how genetics work with chickens... but don't you need to introduce an outside variant otherwise, brothers and sisters may not produce good egg layers?SuburbanFarmer wrote: ↑Fri Apr 14, 2023 8:00 amEgg supply secured.

That is going to be the challenge... I have a friend that has some free-range chickens... oy, are they a PITA if you don't get a good batch with a even personality.SuburbanFarmer wrote: ↑Fri Apr 14, 2023 12:10 pmThese are all hens. They aren't that bad. The trick is in keeping the roosters to a minimum and only let the good roosters hang around. Also, there are good hens that can raise chicks successfully and there are bad hens that have a 90%+ mortality rate. But all the eggs are good eggs. The Conservative wrote: ↑Fri Apr 14, 2023 12:58 pmThat is going to be the challenge... As long as they are for eating I'll agree there.Haumana wrote: ↑Fri Apr 14, 2023 1:03 pmThey aren't that bad.
