Heh I was hanging out with some railroad guys yesterday, and they were talking about getting called in to work on it.

Apparently, the railroads have gutted their maintenance departments, leading to more of these. They're not fucking happy about the executive branch overriding their union negotiations. No raises in years, shit conditions, etc. Lots of guys retiring.

That mirrors what I hear from my brother who works for a railroad. When he started it was a good job. Good pay, good pension, good medical plan, in the last 20 years they have just continually reduced to appeal of the job. Less of everything you want, more stupid regulations and management.

Doesn't help when it's starting to get controlled by a single union and entity.

NORAD says they couldn’t detect a fucking balloon.

On Monday, NORAD commander Gen. Glen VanHereck told reporters that spy balloons entered US airspace three times during the Trump administration, but "that we did not detect those threats," calling it a "domain awareness gap."

"Every day as a NORAD commander, it’s my responsibility to detect threats to North America. I will tell you that we did not detect those threats," VanHereck said. "And that’s a domain awareness gap that we have to figure out, but I don’t want to go into further detail."

VanHereck then said that the US intelligence community was able to determine the Trump-era transits after the fact "from additional means that made us aware of those balloons that were previously approaching North America or transited North America."

A single balloon is shattering a lot of illusions.
1. The US military is being surprised by new tech, a lot lately
2. The US gov looks inept as they try to explain why the balloon was allowed to traverse the nation
3. The Military looks bad saying, but it happened under Trump as some sort of weird defense
4. Naming Trump makes them look corrupt actually
5. Politician said Mattis wouldn't tell Trump about Balloons because Trump would get mad
6. Mattis denies balloons happened while he was in the Trump admin.
