I think it's a combo of retirements plus gen X not having as much ambition (in general). As a result we have a gaping hole. Uneducated illegal immigrants can only fill so many of those jobs. They aren't going to fill the skilled trades enough.

I don’t think it’s lack of ambition on Gen X’s part. We’re just a much smaller Generation compared to the boomers and the millennials. If it’s a lack of ambition issue then it’s on the millennials.
