My take on this is that Zelensky has been smelling his own farts too much, and he believes the propaganda about himself, American resolve, and how awful the Russians are at war.

Just about everyone realizes that Ukraine will likely have to give up all of Russian speaking Ukraine, which is east of the Dneiper. Everyone knows that Ukraine will eventually have to negotiate. But somehow, Zelensky thinks he's going to drive the Russian Orcs back to Moscow. In doing so, he is wasting Western Equipment and Ukrainian lives.
