Re: Meanwhile in Ukraine
At this point, I am leaning towards the position that we ought to include Ukraine in NATO if they successfully defeat Russia in the conventional phase of this war.
All the rational arguments against their inclusion in NATO simply fall away at that point. The only thing that remains is the pro-Russia treasonous nonsense. Dispensing with that nonsense..
First, I too was swayed by the notion that NATO cannot possibly defend Ukraine from a Russian invasion. Yet Russia has proven themselves woefully inept. NATO countries combined are overwhelmingly more powerful than Russia.
Secondly, If the Russians can't even win the conventional conflict against the Ukrainians all by themselves, then the Ukrainians have proven themselves the opposite of a liability to the alliance.
Thirdly, I think a case can be made at this point that expanding NATO all the way to that border would effectively neutralize this shit once and for all. There'd be nowhere for Putin to go in our direction. Let the Chinese deal with this shit on their side.

Re: Meanwhile in Ukraine
And I will add a fourth point here..
I really wonder if the Russians would put up as tough a fight in defense of Putin as the Ukrainians put up in defense of their country. This Russian apathy that allows Putin to do this even to his own people is also a weakness to him.

Re: Meanwhile in Ukraine
the most diabolical thing about the Kremlin, is how cheap life is to them
they don't give a shit about Russians
everybody is cannon fodder to them
America agonized over every single man lost in Vietnam, we all see them on the wall
the Kremlin doesn't care, they will kill their own guys as if they were toilet paper
this regime in Moscow is morally repugnant to the American religion by any measure

Re: Meanwhile in Ukraine
we will go to war with them in the end
because we are Americans
and we do not tolerate regimes killing European people, our people, as if they were toilet paper
that shall not stand
the entire American political landscape will be reordered as necessary
Eagle with thunderbolts in talons grasped, Peace Through Strength
onward Christian soldiers, embrace the shuck

Re: Meanwhile in Ukraine
Binary af.
This reminds me more of WWI. The Kaiser being pushed to mobilize by the encroachment of alliances. Neither right nor wrong, it was simply destined to happen when NATO didn’t stop expanding.
Pushing the Russians into an existential conflict after 1991 was a mistake that will reverberate through history, regardless of what the history books say.

Re: Meanwhile in Ukraine
just fyi for the readers of the forum
Kaiser Bill sending his trains didn't start the First World War
at that point it was just Franco-Prussian War Two
it wasn't the First World War until the British Empire entered the war
and that wasn't Kaiser Bill,
that was Churchill, insisting that the Liberal coalition government uphold Belgian Neutrality
or else Churchill would cross the floor to the Tories, at which point the Liberal initiated a World War
