I think some of you are getting ahead of yourselves.

This invasion has nothing to do with China. Russia and China are allies of convenience only. Russia isn't going to attack Ukraine on behalf of China. This is about Russia feeling threatened by Ukraine. This is all about gaining control over the natural gas and oil in Ukraine so Russia cannot be challenged as the primary source of natural gas and oil to Europe. Russia knows as soon as Ukraine joins NATO there is nothing they can do to stop it. That was the point of capturing Crimea and why Russia has been funding separatist groups in and near Ukraine in order to ward off Western investment into these natural gas and oil fields.

Getting Europe off Russian dependence is exactly why powerful individuals in the US had their kids working with Ukrainian oil companies to try and undermine Russian control of the European market.

Russia can be threatened by putting sanctions so heavily on the oil that comes from the pipeline he will never be able to sell it. That being said the truest way for the US to be free of that blatherskite is to start what Trump did and build the wall, making us energy independent, and rebuild our fabrication infrastructure, as well as truly build our electrical infrastructure from the ground up.

Do those things and no matter what Russia or China does, the US would be isolated from it. Sure, we may not get specific soy boy and girl fruits and veggies year-round, but that is what self-dependency demands. We either do it ourselves or not.

If I was Biden (and I am thankful I'm not in that shell) I would put a requirement that any company that does work with China, or has facilities in there, have one year to move them back to the states, or all products made from said facilities will be tariffed 100% above market value.

It is time we remove our dependency on China. They want to make their own stuff, great let them do it, fuck them if they are going to demand our schematics, etc and walk away from us to make a variant cheaper, etc...

No more "Made in China"... we need to make "Made in the USA" mean something again.

but Russia has crossed the Rubicon against the Pax Americana

and China is not doing anything about it

so China is vetting an attack on the Hegemony itself, by default

I am aware that they are enemies in an alliance of convenience

but that alliance is none the less overthrowing the established order right now

and it is overthrown already, regardless if Ukraine is contained somehow from here

This makes sense.

The question is, is this move insane? It seems insane.

Gaining control of the gas and oil may be technically possible, but alienating the entire world to do so?

Is this the gamble of a madman... or is there some scenario where Putin pulls this off?

Does Putin come to regret entering a quagmire in the Ukraine?

Does it become a bleeding ulcer that drains Putin of his credibility and where he is ultimately overthrown by an usurper?

Or is there some scenario where this actually works?
