the Russian Perimetr system is likely switched on right now
that's Dead Hand
if the Ukrainians assaulted Chernobyl and clipped the Elephants Foot, and it goes off ?
that would set Perimiter off
that would cause a salvo of Russian command ICBMs to launch
then they would send out a signal causing the whole Russian strategic deterrent to launch on warning
that would be a massive countervalue strike against the CONUS with 1500 thermonuclear warheads
this is why the Russians made Chernobyl the first objective
make sure you've got the Elephants Foot under control
but that is why the Ukrainians would try to take it back

Re: Meanwhile in Ukraine
From the little I understand of nuclear detonations, there’s no way the elephants foot can explode. It’s mixed together concrete, reactor parts, and low-enriched reactor fuel.
I think nukes require much higher grade stuff to explode…

Re: Meanwhile in Ukraine
this Ukrainian government is pretty fascistic actually
not a meme
they are telling people to die for the Fuhrer now basically
save President Zelensky from Putin
at literally any cost
like the fall of Berlin to the Soviets

Re: Meanwhile in Ukraine
I looked it up
it says it could have another "catastrophic explosion"
I misread that as meaning critical mass
it would still be a huge dirty bomb tho, sending another radioactive plume across Europe
it's smouldering uranium right now, getting hotter lately

It can certainly spray radiation around, just not go into the fission chain reaction. I think they hit some part of the waste containment building yesterday.Smitty-48 wrote: Fri Feb 25, 2022 6:26 pmokay goodSuburbanFarmer wrote: Fri Feb 25, 2022 6:21 pm From the little I understand of nuclear detonations, there’s no way the elephants foot can explode. But most of the complex is still an active power plant. That’s why Russia went for it.

plus the Russians do have to match DEFCON 3
but they don't have DEFCON really
the Dead Hand would just be switched on now

in your guerilla war scenario the Ukrainians could weaponize it
I don't know how concerned the Russians are about saving power plants
since they just blew one up in another part of Ukraine with tactical ballistic missile

appears the Russians are actually using their Iskander tactical ballistic missiles
