Gonna need a little more than Marty Hashs word to change my view on the nature of man.

The default human configuration is tribal. That’s not usually an authoritarian structure.

Also, people tend to reject and abhor authoritarian governments, by default. That’s why they have to hide behind ulterior motives to control us.

I’d say that this level is deeper and more important.

At the tribal level, humanity is by nature a communal species. That simply breaks down at scale. Dunbars number is supreme.

When we get to massive societies, we still retain the tribal impulse. Those without a tribe are susceptible to viewing humanity or society as their tribe. Those with their own don’t fall prey to it.

The loners and the stragglers are the bane of freedom. Always have been.

It’s no wonder that those isolated in stacked housing are more prone to authoritarianism. They have no tribe. Meanwhile, the Center holds its own. Eternal conflict.

You romanticize Fascism but still a good metaphor.

From your own example, it’s clear authoritarianism is man’s default state: liberty requires all parties being trained for it to work.
