you might have five minutes to get me interested
but they just spent the first five minutes blabbering on about nothing
I was done right there, but I skipped ahead a bit, and just sounded the same all the way through
I'm not going to listen to you babble on aimlessly for two hours or whatever
you need to get right to the point, what is the point, why would I care ?
and you need a radio voice, you can't be umming & ahing in people's ears on radio
I can't even get to giving you an opinion on the ideas in the podcast
because I didn't know what the idea was in the introduction
and the production was so bad, I didn't stick around to find out
that needs a lot of work, that is not a polished product, I couldn't even stand listening to it
I don't know computers, but I know lectures, interviews & command voice
you need to work on all three
before you go to a ninety minute talk, get your shit together
big rambling topics, you're not ready for that
smaller topics, shorter talks, much more focused, get to the points, and get a command voice
I'm a music guy, I listen to music all day, if I got to stop to listen to you talk, it better be good
if you don't have me interested in the first two minutes, I'm out
meanwhile you spent first few minutes talking about nothing, just blathering
umm, ah, blah blah, umm, ah, blah blah, we're going to talk about something blah blah
you gotta come out of the gate with the most engaging point you have, right away
you need to get peoples attention right away, or we are turning the dial, bro
this is show business, nobody fucking cares unless you make them care
you need a hook, something to state your case in one or two sentences
the greatest empire in history was not founded with grenadiers nor even by a Briton
it was founded by a gay Dutchman with a printing press in a bloodless coup
it was not force of arms but rather liberalization which conquered the world
something like that, something that gets your point across right away
then imeduately do your intro
I'm Master Corporal Smitty (retired ) my guest today is Doctor Martin Hash Esquire
the topic is the Rise & Fall of the British Empire
from the Battle of the Boyne to the the Battle of the Somme
etcetera
now you are in essence giving a lecture, and its on the radio right in people's ears
so you have to get rid of your distracting verbal tics, umms, ahs, and the like
that makes you sound nervous, you don't what you're talking about, you're just blahtering
the trick is to slow down and say less, don't rush and don't fill in gaps with umms & ahs

when it comes through Bose surround sound speakers, it's just jarringGloryofGreece wrote: ↑Tue Sep 07, 2021 12:25 pm
It was a conversation podcast and generally is. I appreciate you didn't enjoy the first 5 minutes.
it's like a cacophony, too noisy, like a loud conversation shouted in my ear
my wife came downstairs wondering what the heck that was, it's just off putting
I would recommend slowing & organizing it into something more palatable in the audio paradigm
it's too much chatter, too many verbal tics, you're talking over each other, but not with a radio voice, with a nasally high pitched voice
it's not produced nor directed enough for my tastes
you first need a radio voice, without all the verbal tics, slower, deeper & less nasally
then do a proper structured interview, so you're not both talking at the same time, otherwise it's just a wall of noise : cacophony
if your podcast is annoying to listen to at the production level, don't expect me to hang around for more than five minutes of that
it's like an audiobook, the most important thing is the narration
If I don't like the narration, I don't stick around to find out what happens in the book

Rough critique. Not entirely wrong, but you’re doing something that very few of us would dare to. Keep working at it dude.

Here is my new substack. I will likely have a few podcasts here and there as well. Its a new penname, and I move from the historical to a literary / spiritual focus. Also, I intend on publishing a series of short stories.
I'll cover Milton and Paradise Lost, Dicken's and the Pickwick Papers, Gene Wolfe and his fiction.
