the balance of power between the two

where both sides are in a competitive stalemate

through competition with the other

for the balance of power to endure

that is what drives men to greater levels of liberty and innovation


it also allows higher levels of both reason and faith

to exist in such a dynamic

without one coming to dominate the other

eventually resulting in the separation of church and state

which is a Christian innovation

that is the foundation of liberty


the fusion of church and state

undermines the polarity that drives liberty and innovation

just as too much of one or the other does


eschewing faith or reason

to put all the eggs in one basket

or the fusion of church and state

is how liberty is lost

or never found in the first place


aim for the goldilocks zone

that is where the most liberty to the most people is at

the people and societies that most embody this dynamic

there is a reason that the nations who invented liberty

and became the freest nations on the planet

were majority Christian nations

especially majority Protestant nations

you can deny the historical record all you want

but it is clear as day that faith is essential component of liberty
