well, I tried hard to get them to do the right thing

I didn't just stand aside quietly, for my father I pushed as hard as I could

but that just caused them to lash out at me, viciously, like trying to do maximum emotional damage

that hurt, but more importantly, it just showed me that they cannot be trusted

they are mean in spirit, even if they are playing it cool, they are passive-aggressive

but I don't know what's going on

they said the cruellest things they could think of to me

I decided I didn't need that in my life, they're only stepbrothers, we did not grow up together

and they've never called me back in thirteen years, so I've just moved on

just to give you an example of the sort of craziness my wife & I were dealing with

I didn't live in the house, it wasn't my house, I never grew up there, I left home at 17

my father stated in the will that his house was to be sold, then the proceeds divided equally

but I didn't want kick my brothers out of there house right away, until it was sold, I let them live there

these are legal adults at this point, 19 & 20 years old

so I figured they could maintain the routine without burning the place down

but what they did was destroy the house

they trashed it, it was so bad we had to call in a company to clean it up

they filled the basement with garbage until the neighbours had rats coming into their houses

they smashed the place up, tore up the walls, there was stains all over the walls

there was raccoons living on the top floor, because they ripped the screens out of the window

it was truly shocking, I've never seen a house trashed so completely

and again, when I confronted them about it, they attacked me for it

I was like, these kids are literally crazy, thank goodness my father isn't here to see this

Hope you at least got to deduct the repairs from their shares.

When things are given to people with no moral compass and a live for the now mentality…….this is what happens. My brother and sister in law think and act that way. Hell they are not even waiting for his parents to be 6 feet under. They are racking up debt because they count on the potential inheritance to pay off their stupidity and they think they can continue on after that. Like it’s a never ending well of cash. Hell they have over $40k in credit card debt right now, plus a decent sized mortgage and a Tahoe payment. Not to mention his grandmother has bailed them out three times already. He makes $24hr and she makes $12hr but they live like they make $150k per year.

well my wife did an amazing job of getting the house back ready for sale

my father had just died, I won't deny, I was a bit of a wreck, so she took the lead

because of the location the house went for a mint even with the damages to it, a contractor bought it in the end

but my brother stole my fathers car next

there was no insurance on it at the tine, so it was not legally on the road

if he had the slightest accident with it, everybody's inheritance would have been gone, it would have been sued away

when I confronted him about it, that was I got the vicious attack, like as cruel as he could be, going for the jugular

that was when I had enough, I had to call the police and report the car stolen, just for liability purposes

that was the only way I could get him to bring it back and park it

then I had to report returned, just a misundertsanding

I was trying to keep the family together, let them stay in their home for as long as possible

trust them to be able to handle it, it wasn't something i couldn't have handled when I was twenty

when I was twenty, I was already a Section Commander in the army

but these kids were infantilized, they were pathological narcissists, both of them the same

again tho, that was not how my father raised them, they are products of the cultural environment
