he was shot dead in a home invasion, just as he was blowing up into being the next 50cent

so that has generated the 2pac effect, the kids worship him

he was a protege of 50cent, 50cent was at his funeral

but Pop Smoke was actually a Crip, so he was more Pac than Pac actually
No shit?
Wow.
Well, that explains it.
Yeah, 50cent is the first dude I thought of when I heard him.
Makes sense.

Y'all like west coast rap?
Seems like it's been kinda dead since NWA, Ice Cube, D. Dre, Snoop, etc.
I never got that memo

That video literally started with Snoop.
Aside from the Golden Era of West Coast - NWA members, 2Pac, Snoop - who have they brought to the game recently?
They're still recycling the old guys, sure.
Eminem is older than me and still dropping albums.
But what has the West Coast done lately?

Remble <- Best I've heard from them in a while.
Still like the oldies tho.
Eminem and dis raps?
That's all the excuse I need to post some Ninja.

Damn.
Sounds lit.
We still have our murder rappers down here.

But they aren't big time - except maybe Da Baby.
there is a running gang war in Toronto, and it's not even about drugs

it's about fame

the gangsters rap to get record contracts, which are worth so much more than drugs

that money then flows to their gangs

so the gangs are taking each others rap kings out, in a power struggle for big money

50 Cent is what happens when you get rich
Pop Smoke is what happens when you die trying

the gang scene in Toronto is kind of like Chicago in the Prohibition Era

the gangs here have money, lots of money, big money

they are not shooting it out in the ghetto over drug deals

shit goes down at luxury condo AirBnB's now, and it's not about money, it's about clout

the result is that we don't have the same volume of shootings as in Chicago

because that is poor people in the ghetto shooting it out over the drug trade

in Toronto the street gangs have become more like the Italian Mafia

truly organized crime, so it's all like mafia hits, targeted assassinations

the rappers are killing rappers, there is no distinction between rapper & gangster

hence we have a rapper getting shot up here every few weeks

Houdini for example was shot in an ambush in retaliation for Smoke Dawg getting shot

this was right after Houdini was signed to a big American contract by Meek Mill

and the hit was ordered by Smoke Dawg's brother Young Smoke, now charged for the murder

it was in fact far more dangerous for me to be walking around Regent Park back in 1988

that was when they were fighting in the streets over crack cocaine

my old hood now has been mostly gentrified, it's been overrun by hipsters

the gangsters meanwhile have moved right downtown into the luxury condo towers

UGK still sounding harder to me than the auto-tuned Come Outside stuff.
I'm biased against auto-tune tho.

it's not so much the track, that is simply an example of the rapper-gangster fusion here

that is Menace Gang from Alexandra Park in Toronto

the fellow in the mask is Rowan "Rolexx Homi" Atkins, a notorious gangster-rapper here

he's the heavy for the gang, recently arrested on a slew of charges by Metro Police

he has a long rap sheet, including six years in the pen for a violent home invasion robbery

here he is again, this time solo
