How far should folks go to stop Stalin and Beria from running a nation?
Pretty far.

Not Stalin and Beria far.
But ... pretty far.

I obviously don't condone the wholesale slaughter of anyone based on their demographics.
That's pretty high on the scale of humanitarian evils.
It's not even a military tactic really - that's like a terrorist tactic.

On the other hand - when facing down a Beria and a Stalin, the opposition is gonna have to be a little morally flexible if they don't want to be annihilated.

For the record, Zhukov took out Beria.
And he didn't shed many tears over it.

So if the species is secure - why fight for Communists to take over the nation if you're never going to live it anyway?

If I had no kids, I'd give a fuck about this place.
I'd be like - damn, America is going straight down the shitter.
Glad I'm out of here in a few decades.

But I wouldn't waste much energy trying to turn it around.
