Update
So - I've been away for a while...
Here's the scoop.
My daughter ended up in hospital.
No... it wasn't the usual teenage drama.
She literally had a psychotic break.
That threw me... the good old psychiatrist dad.... for a serious loop.
She was hospitalized for almost two months by the end of it.
It was an extremely humbling experience.
The good news...
She's back to herself... it's been about a month now.
Really back to herself. I mean she had a tough year and a half with COVID and all... and she was losing her shit for a while...
But I chalked it up to teenage drama.
Then she had a big fall out with one of her best friends.... no biggie, I thought...
Then she stopped sleeping... stopped eating.... and finally stopped making sense at all.
Holy Fuck.
Hospital is a shit hole of course.... and she ended up on the unit where I worked for 20 years...
Before I quit.
So there's Karma for ya.
And the psychiatrist who was my junior partner was the one helping her.
That was awkward.
Oh well.... all's well that ends well.
SHe's still on some meds.... but that's ok....
She's working and back with friends again...
My wife and I had the challenge of our lives...
Made the rest of our silly arguments seem like nothing.
We're hanging in.... maybe stronger than ever.
What y'all been up to?
Same ol' same ol?
Here's the scoop.

I'm glad that she's doing better. I hope everything works out for her in the long run and that things aren't too stressful now.
It's good to hear from you.

Glad your daughter recovered. Mental illness among females has become the norm so nothing to beat yourself up about. Good to have you back.

Re: Update
that sounds frightening
on the other hand, that's the kind of situation you can handle
that's kind of your specialty, psychotic breaks is your thing
this is your bread & butter, right in your wheelhouse

Re: Update
Ha...
You might think so...
But... dude... that was the most fucked up thing I've ever had to deal with...
I mean... I've worked with psychosis... I've had psychosis...
I've been there and back...
But when it's your own 16 year old daughter...
It's different.
It's a whole other level....
I thought I had it... I didn't...
Had to drop her off the first time... that was hell.
Second time I had to call 911.
Some of the shittiest and scariest days of my life.

Damn Dr. Y - that's tough. I can think of very few things harder or more terrifying than watching your children going through an ordeal like that. I'm really happy to hear she's back on track, and the worst of it seems to be behind you.
You're right to withdraw from the internet when real life is throwing curveballs at you. I find my own participation here and everywhere on the internet drops to zero when real stuff is going on.
Good to see you back.
I hope life continues improving for you, your daughter, and the rest of your family from here on out.

Re: Update
What a rough tale that is. We fear bad things happening to our children much more than to ourselves. What you describe sounds like hell. You've been visited upon by the dragon of chaos.DrYouth wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 5:16 pmSo - I've been away for a while...

Glad to hear things are improving.
