There's loads of them. Synchronised swimming and dressage are a couple of the worst ones.
The Olympic motto is faster, higher, stronger.
There's no mention of prettier, sleeker, more stylish.

There is great aesthetic beauty to high-level athleticism.... something the Greeks understood. Synchronized swimmers are capable of athletic feats you and I can hardly imagine, and they deserve a venue like the Olympics to showcase those feats.

Sure but if something has to be judged on aesthetic beauty it's not a sport it's art.

The difficulty of the technique and the quality of the execution are athletic parameters, but aren't as easy to determine as who is fastest or who lifts the most weight.

There is an artistry to sport, that is one of the things that makes it engaging to watch.

I mean, the Olympics used to have competitions in poetry but they ended up dropping that so I don't see why we can't get rid of ice dancing.

They should bring competitive poetry back.

Perhaps we can ID the perfect form and execution, then attach sensors all over these performers, and just let the computer score them

You raise excellent points and are clearly a man of principle who should be emulated. As a result of your superior thinking and nothing else I shall drop all opposition to judged competitions in the Games.

In other totally unrelated news I would like to congratulate GB's synchronised diving pair for their gold medals and thank them for the resultant rise up the medal table for team GB.

Bit of a scare for GB in the rugby 7s.
21 nil down to USA in the first half.
Eventually came back to win 26-21 but it was a close run thing.
Great to see the US playing so well, good results like this can only improve the popularity of rugby and help grow the sport.
