They are working on just that. Here's an update from TDOTSuburbanFarmer wrote: ↑Fri May 14, 2021 11:21 amSeems pretty unnecessary to me. You could slap a temporary patch on there and move the shipping traffic without weight on the bridge.C-Mag wrote: ↑Fri May 14, 2021 11:07 amThat will put a wrinkle in the supply chain.SuburbanFarmer wrote: ↑Fri May 14, 2021 6:59 am800 barges stacked up now. Maybe stop it during high winds or something.
The US Coast Guard made the decision to reopen the Mississippi River to traffic at 9:00 AM CDT this morning.
· The design team is investigating the benefits of installing a steel plate to beef up the fractured section and thus increase our factor of safety for the existing configuration.
· The design team is working on an interim repair design concept that contemplates using steel rods that would be attached to the bridge and span over the fractured section, and provide the needed strength to reopen the bridge to vehicular traffic.

I can guarantee you that beam didn't spontaneously break. There were cracks in that beam that were missed or ignored. These bridges have to be inspected a minimum of once a year. Someone fucked up, and probably over several inspections.

For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

Here's another one. This time, Stolen Car + Gas Hoarding in the Trunk + Police Chase = BBQ
The temporary crisis prompted panic buying and gas hoarding across the Southeast. One of those desperate drivers was Patterson, who admitted that she was doing just that when she crashed the Pontiac G6 in the city of Pikens, according to officials.
The sheriff’s deputy tried pulling her over Thursday after learning that the car had been reported stolen, authorities said. As the deputy activated his vehicle’s siren, the suspect accelerated before crashing just moments later, according to the release.
“Before the deputy could complete radio traffic with the Communications center, the driver of the Pontiac lost control of the vehicle leaving the roadway and completely flipping the vehicle,” authorities said. “The vehicle immediately caught fire and multiple explosions were heard inside the vehicle.”

Hopefully she didn't lose her SNAP card in the blaze.

Hyperbole.
I don't even support the death penalty for murder let alone selfishness.
I do like the idea of people losing their gas guzzling vehicles due to stupidity though. Should have bought a Cybertruck.
I'm still a bit disappointed to find out this story is just an urban myth with no evidence that it ever happened although it does at least mean no dog died.
