First learn supply and demand.
Then it will become apparent why the government can't just pick prices for things.
For wood, the supply is there. There's is bullhit why it's so high, and it has nothing to do with demand.

It's about as false as the oil cartels reasoning.
The wood is there, eh?
Then what stops other companies from simply harvesting it, and filling the demand at a lower price?
Do tell.

Transport, people don't want to risk the transport, because some states still have forced quarantine and the fact that the suppliers are not getting the same benefit of the sales as the big box stores. 30 years ago they were making something like $25 a tree or something of the sort, now they are making the exact same amount...

The producers of the trees don't have any reason to go all out to cut down their stock, they aren't seeing any benefit of it.

Ahhhhh ... so the wood is plentiful, but the amount of wood available for people to use is limited because of supply chain issues. So everyone using wood has to compete for a smaller and smaller available supply until the supply chain is normalized again.

Well ... sounds like you just figured out why the prices are so darn high.
More people want wood than there is wood available to use.

Who would have thought we'd be wishing for 2020 back.
Almost everyone here.
Minus Monte and GCF maybe, but hey, we embrace diversity.

2020 sucked. 2021 is the redneck renaissance. Land of the Free ain’t gonna take this shit for long.

Not that simple. The big stores can get as much as they want. They refuse to.

Please comment about shit you know about...

There is a small (compared to the big box stores) lumber supply place near where I live, they always have lumber, it's where I get mine.

Go to Home Depot and the rest and the same said lumber is not available. The big box stores could get lumber if they wanted to, but what they don't want to do is cut into their profit, so they try to short change the supplier...which the supplier refuses to play ball... which is hurting everyone else.

There is a difference between competition and greed.

Straight supply and demand is cool. But then you have greedy fuckery that goes on. Where Wall Street grifters get a supply of commodities, then create an artificial shortage, pump the price up and make billions.

Worse yet, is the fuckery they tried to pull with Silver. Where they've over sold paper Silver, try to pump the price to dump it, and get rich on commodities that don't exist.

Please take your own advice.

You start off bitching about the high cost of lumber (meaning stores have raised their prices), now say stores refuse to stock it because they can't make a profit.
