^^^ +1^^^
I'm planting feed corn this year as a test to see if I can reduce my chicken feed costs. I am also planting additional squash to feed them.
If this works out I'm going to have a seperate feed garden for hogs.

Not trying to be preachy boys, but if you have space, and are not planting some kind of garden or stocking up on food, you're being foolish IMHNSO. I give a shit about you guys, and I don't want you and your family hammered by high food prices. A 40 foot row of potatoes next to a fence can net you over 100 lbs. It's not hard, and it's good for your mind, body and soul.
Time for Victory gardens to fight against the globohomo food monopolies. Every dollar of food you produce, is a dollar your starve them of teaching systemic racism bullshit.

Been working on it for a while... lol. Even so, we are never going to be truly prepared until we get real space for gardens.C-Mag wrote: ↑Tue May 11, 2021 10:51 amForum heads up

(And yeah, I've heard of Google but I'd rather someone who knows what they're talking about just point me to the good stuff)

Re: Preparing for Uncertainty and Self Reliance
Potatoes depend a lot on your soil. I planted a row last year in gravelly clay, and they failed badly. The ones in tires did great, when we just loosely dropped garden soil in there.
Shovel in more dirt every few weeks, up to the bottom row of leaves. Add a second tire (sidewalls cut out) once it’s around a foot tall, and continue. Let it sit until the plant starts dying. Easy peasy, lots of calories.

I had mixed results like SF until I went to this method. The spud plant feeds on the straw, doesn't really matter what your soil is.
Lay down approx 4-6 inches of straw or old hay
place your seed potatoes on top
cover spuds with just enough compost or potting soil to cover them
laydown another 4-6 inches of straw or hay
water every 1-3 days as needed
90-120 days later harvest
