I decided to start this topic up, just so we can see what we read, and also show off what we got in our libraries.

So, my son is 5 years old, and we already have two bookcases full of kid's books for him. I read to him nightly. One of the favorite authors he has is Dr. Seuss. As well as some of my childhood books as well, and some from my mother, and my grandparents...

Well, we just got a book in the mail, a 1964 edition of "And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street."

We got it for $30... It is selling for $800 on Amazon...

I will be reading this to my son tonight. You know, I have an issue with people banning books... especially children's books. He may never want to read it again, but you know what... I don't care, I got a book that offends people, and I love it.

Independent book stores tend to carry old books. I got a college textbook about Modern Democracy that talks about Aryan civilization.

Right now, I'm reading Victoria by William Lind. It is an account of the dissolution of the United States as a result of cultural marxism and the reaction to it. I recommend it highly.

Most bookstores around here either won't carry the "banned" doctor Suess books or only sell them online. I always go to independent bookstores and look for unique books, always look for deals and steals. That is where I get most of my old books from.

My personal opinion is that Kiyosaki has nothing to say that you don't already know but he is enthusiastic and that's worth something.

That's awesome. Did you have Clive sign them personally, or pick them up after they were signed?
Kiyosaki is a good storyteller, but the main thing I got from his book was that I was raised with the wrong mindset regarding money. I pulled some value out of his comparisons between how rich people think about money vs the poor. Other than that tho - yeah, it was more of a fun read than anything else. I don't think anyone read it and got rich from the material.

He has some other books and a podcast that offer even less insight but more cheerleading.

Something important I learned about money a couple decades ago, which everybody should see now: money is imaginary, and mostly comes from luck. People who have lots of money are not to be admired nor envied; only accomplishments are truly earned. The quest for money takes you away from achieving the things you really want; time spent worrying about getting more money is better spent trying to do more of what you like, and I don’t mean relaxing or being entertained: those are what you do inbetween. The flexibility that comes from money is its only real value.

I recently started going through my book collection, lots of history books. I boxed up 90% of my books written after 1970. I kept books like the ones written on the Great War in the 20s and 30s.
