the other advantage of these googles is that you can see through the hull of an armored vehicle like x-ray vision
I've tried the Israeli version called Iron Vision at a military trade show, it's pretty impressive actually

the personnel are the most expensive part of the militarySuburbanFarmer wrote: ↑Sat Apr 03, 2021 9:51 pmJesus, are we Germany 1937 now?
Undermanned, pumping up tech, ‘rediscovering’ blitzkrieg, paranoid and looking for a first strike?
paying for the care & feeding of the troops is half the budget
so the doctrine is called Adaptive & Dispersed, you can do more with less troops by leveraging technology
the downfall is when you get into asymmetrical guerilla warfare
so it's like you can drive on Baghdad and take it fast with very few troops
but when Iraq then implodes, the technology can't save you
none the less, at the operational level it's hard to overstate how much this technology streamlines things
in the olden days, we used paper & pencil & string, with a compass, binoculars and a radio
it would take all day to prepare for a relatively simple mission
with this technology all that could be compressed into minutes
at the end of the day, the Pentagon has no other option
the American way of warfare is societal, Americans demand quick & decisive victories with minimal casualties
technology is America's key advantage
the Pentagon can't turn around and say they are going to fight like the North Vietnamese instead

All B-1B Bombers Have Been Grounded
The swing-wing bombers have become increasingly unreliable after years of constant work over Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan.
On April 8, B-1B Lancer serial number 86-0104 experienced a ground emergency relating to an augmenter fuel pump filter housing, after landing at Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota. Air Force Global Strike Command's public affairs office has now confirmed that subsequent precautionary one-time inspections carried out on all B-1B aircraft as a result of the discrepancy produced concerning enough results that more invasive inspections were ordered, along with a fleet-wide grounding earlier this week.
The inspections will be performed under the guidance of a Time Compliance Technical Order (TCTO), and each jet will be returned to service individually upon completion. There is no timeline presently for when the B-1Bs are expected to be flying again. Air Force Global Strike Command's (AFGSC) public affairs office told us that other bombers — B-52 and B-2 aircraft — will continue to support combatant commands across the globe.

Re: Current US Military
see, the Rand Corporation study which condemned the F-35, really just condemned it for being a tactical fighter
what the Rand Corporation thought America should invest in instead, was bombers
the idea being that bombers give America global strategic power, reach & firepower in the most efficient package
one idea was to use the B-1B as a Missile Truck
so instead of sending fighters, you send drones out ahead, then the B-1B launches missiles from standoff
this missed the point that the actual war America is fighting is the global market share war for military exports
dropping bombs on people is modern, selling bombs to people is postmodern
