Something to note about Persians is they have the same ancestry as Europeans. This is most obvious when you look at their language which is an Indo-European language, compared to Arabic's Afroasiatic origins. The differences between the Iranians and the Arabs goes back much further than Sunni vs Shiite.

I'm curious, where do you stand on the Islamic Golden Age ?

How did a bunch of camel herders suddenly develop science, art and math, and then lose it almost as quickly.

I have a theory, but I want to hear yours.

The Persian & Babylonian Empires preceded Islam.

Islamists absorbed the vestigial power of the Romans, becoming the Ottomans.

And there were Jews, who at the time were allied with Islam.

My view is similar. As the Islamic conquests expanded, the absorbed more and more from conquered lands, and peoples.

I view them in the same way as the Mongols. They conquered complex societies and used those tools in their own way. When they stopped conquering, it all fell apart.

I wouldn’t discount the achievements of the Babylonians so lightly. The ancient Arab city-states birthed civilization.

The ME that the Muslims conquered was a Hellenistic and Persian world. The so called Golden Age was the period between conquest and finished islamisation.

Might help everyone stuck to a specific time period or people.
