From what I gathered, the defense was about to start calling witnesses, and probably would have called half of the rally attendees. The senate considered ‘debating’ the number of witnesses, ten realized that this was ridiculous and folded the entire thing.

My understanding is the Trump team would have had a chance to call additional witnesses, could have called anyone, and threatened to put Pelosi on the stand.

I have been looking for the video, but this is the "best" one I can find. What they don't show is Nancy Pelosi coming in stage left storming over like a pissed off bull unannounced to take the podium. This "presser" was for the impeachment managers, not Pelosi to vent her spleen.
