I'll tell you why this whole argument is confusing to me.

I have heard the idea that the critical evolutionary adaptation for humans was sweat glands and big ass muscles for long distance running presented as a leftist/environmentalist argument for why humans don't need polluting technology and polluting civilizations. I typically hear it from left leaning materialists trying to argue that humans aren't different from other animals, or exceptional in any way.

Until now, I don't think I have ever heard it presented any other way.
