Our governor is demanding everyone where masks all the time, starting tomorrow. Seattle's mayor called CHOP "The Summer of Love." My friend's son (Portlander) told him "burn it all down" yesterday, and he's definitely in a supermajority.

I am not certain what wearing a mask has to do with communism, but leaving that aside, CHOP is already disintegrating under the weight of its own stupidity, and in very public view. Best anti-communist thing to happen in a minute.

You'll have to show me some evidence of the 'burn it down' super majority beyond a handful of anecdotes. I say stupid shit when I am talking to my friends as well, but I have not seen anything that would suggest the majority are on board with the far-left program. They are loud, but they are not convincing.

A sizable amount of monied people in this country are funding subversive /communist propaganda and ngos etc. Course you'd have to believe America was more than "muh freedom" or "muh diversity" to think its being or been subverted.

Middle ground , moderation fallacy. Iron law of democracy states what, do you know?

I know that people that believe in Iron laws are usually wrong, and what I posted wasn't a moderation fallacy. A moderation fallacy would be arguing for a position between communist and white supremacist. I argued that neither are relevant, and panic about either is just overwrought hand wringing.

In this post and others you've suggested America has always been in disagreement, hinting at this situation currently is just 'same ol thing" etc. and that is suggesting moderation will end the day. I don't think it is what you claim it to be, or that its mostly been like you say it has.

I can't think of a time when there weren't serious disagreements between Americans, but you are a better historian than I. Where I disagree with you is your claim that America is only REALLY American when there aren't disagreements. I am open to the idea that I misunderstood your comment, though.

As for moderation, or the novelty of the current moment, I will need more specifics, because I am not sure what you are referring to. Loving the sound of my own voice, as I do, I would be happy to elaborate on any particular point you think I am misguided on.

Well, I don't think we would disagree on the efficacy of masks, but I don't see it as conditioning obedience any more than the state locking you up for going about with your genitals out, or any other number of accepted social practices backed by the force of the state.

You probably dont really believe in archetypes/universal truths do you? You're far more Aristotelian than Platonic, correct? If you don't believe in an "essence" or America or much really then you wouldn't feel like we are on the precipice of disaster. You have to define what America is and what it means to be American for us to have a grown up debate worth having. Go.
