No one's suggested "the govt is synonomous with culture", least of all myself. You're being serious now, ok then, but arguing that paying taxes toward funding museums is a slippery slope toward shipping of citizens to gulags or KZ-camps? Too crazy, HD. Danes question government all the time, too. If you could read Danish and followed the various public debates, you'd know that.
And if you honestly believe I'm Communist, HD, you're simply a moron. I'm not an anti-capitalist, against religion, not a republican, and don't believe workers must own the means of production. I don't worship capitalism as the ultimate good or something, either, though. It's just an economic system. Beats stifling mercantalism and an unflexible planned economy. It's so far the best engine for the job of generating wealth for the good of all of society.

How dare you.
I think it doesn't matter what your political beliefs are, if over half of your income is going towards the state, than it is is a moot point. You ever heard of pareto? He discusses how one elite replaces another. And quite frankly, leaders come and go. Bureaucracies are dug in like termites. They are the real cancer. The current leader is like acne. Eventually he will go away. But bureaucrats grow like a bone tumor. And they will keep growing. How does one vote them out? Can you think of a historical example of that happening? I cannot.
I don't have a solution to this problem. These rioting fucks destroying private property are gross to me, but I also think the whole "vote or don't complain" bullshit is weaksauce.
Its like that Emma Goldman quote: "If voting changed anything, they'd have outlawed it long ago."

HD, I don't believe in direct democracy or that everything should be constantly voted on everytime someone in government, or bureaucracy, wants to make a decision. Giving or taking away power from a bureaucracy is up to the elected representatives. Bureaucrats are there because they are needed. You can't have civilization without a bureaucracy. You might want to replace the human bureaucrats with AI bureaucrats, I suppose, but I'm not sure that's neccesarily a better replacement. If you feel there aren't enough checks on a power, start a movement, gain followers, become famous, gain more followers, get elected or get someone who represents your movement elected.
If you don't succeed at that, well... then you just don't have the democratic backing and should give up on it. Or keep trying to influence people until you're old and have over the baton to someone else. Can't expect instant change no matter what you do, though. Bureaucrats have been essential in recording, calculating, assessing, and evaluating decisions by governments and trying to carry out the dictates of government, since the dawn of civilization when record keeping first became a thing, and first city-states took accounting of the state's grain stores. It ain't going away.

I don't believe in direct democracy either. Democracy doesn't stop govt abuse. It simply guarantees a peaceful transfer of power. Nor do I want technocracy or AI or whatever.BjornP wrote: ↑Tue Jun 02, 2020 2:36 amHD, I don't believe in direct democracy or that everything should be constantly voted on everytime someone in government, or bureaucracy, wants to make a decision. I don't have a good answer.
We don't need a bureaucracy. Quite the opposite, they need us. Bureaucrats may have always been around, but so has slavery and genocide too. Just because something is age old doesn't make it good. That is a weak argument. Bureaucrats have always been corrupt thieves. And they general hate business, because business makes them redundant and does their job more efficiently than they do. Ask a public school teacher what they think about private schools or charter schools. Bureaucrats want to be the only game in town. The #1 rule of govt is to grow govt. Asking a bureaucrat if you need more gov't is like asking a barber if you need a haircut.
Get rid of all the govt bureaucracies and privatize them. This give folks more choice and makes services cheaper.
We shouldn't have public schools, medicare, medicaid, any of that. Get rid of it all, and let folks choose which and what they want. Market>than govt always

Privatizing bureaucracy doesn't eliminate bureaucracy. The day to day management of the state, public institutions, military, and the legal system, sure you could privitize it. You'd still get told by the private company bureaucrat #1 that you need to take your complaint to private company bureaucrat #2, who is at the other end of the city, and when you arrive there, they'll have you fill in a form that you need to bring to a third location, because that part of the bureaucratic process was handed to a second private bureaucrat firm, and when you finally arrive there, they'll charge you 50 dollars for the privilege of them putting a stamp on your document. And then they call the cops on you for standing there, outraged at them wasting your time.
But seriously, I don't know the best solution for you, either. Or see the same things as problems to the extent you do. Hope you find a solution or someone who can give you a solution to it for your sake, in any case.

You could decide what and how much bureacracy you wanted though. Yeah companies have HR and shit, but if it was private then it would have to be more efficient. Where you see inefficiency in companies today are largely one who have sweetheart deals with the govt. If you didn't want to deal with some private school, send your kids to another one. If you wanted to home school them, you could. If you didn't like one healthcare provider, go to another one. And they'd keep eachother in check. With govt you don't have any need for better services, because you simply lock up the competition. And you have a literal captive base of customers.

There are a lot of things government should stay out of.

The societal realms need to be kept independent of each other.
